Mission: Jeepers Creepers!
Location: Engineering

Lyra stared at the disassembled spider, lost in thought.

"It's almost pretty." T'val said, queitly.

"It is fascinating." Lyra retorted, bemused. "I have never seen this alloy before. It is very... interesting."

T'val shot her a glance.

"What? If you're gonna be Lyra, I've gotta be T'val." Lyra crossed her arms.

T'val didn't quite smile.

Olivia stepped into Engineering, holding several PADDs containing paperwork. She stopped short, and stared at the spider.

"That's quite the spanner to throw in the works." Olivia said, giving the creeper a strange look. "That's what almost took over the station?"

"And a freighter." Lyra nodded. "They might have to scuttle the freighter."

"It's being held together with duct tape and a little bit of hope." T'val added.

Olivia looked between the two, and pointed at each other, then twisted her arms, to point at the other. "You two... Freaky friday?"

"It's Monday." T'val pointed out.

"And this is not freaky." Lyra agreed.

Olivia tilted her head. "Starfleet has looked over your reports. Both of you." She paused. "There is someone in the Starfleet Corps of Engineers who wanted to speak with both of you."

"Who?" T'val asked.

Lyra scrunched up her face. "I did not think they wanted anything to do with me."

"They didn't." Olivia frowned. "Can you two knock that off?"

"As you wish." T'val nodded.

"Fiiiiiine." Lyra grumbled.

"What's with that, anyway?" Olivia paused. "Wait. Is she-"

Lyra nodded quietly.

"Ohhhh. Nevermind." Olivia shook her head. "Annnnyway. You uh."

T'val took the PADD out of Olivia's hands. "We are being reassigned?"

"What? Really?" Lyra looked over T'val's shoulder.

"There's an S.C.E. research ship. Out there." Olivia paused. "You... uh..."

T'val raised her eyebrows.

"What?" Lyra asked.

"You're being placed in charge of it." T'val noted.

"Whose bright idea was that?" Lyra looked confused.

"Kathleen Lorrietta." Olivia said softly. "She wrote about your sonic repulsors." She looked away. "She left the paperwork unfinished. I... found it in her personal effects. There are a few people filing objections against it, but there was also this incident report that Colonel Bishop was too busy to get to." Olivia dug through her jacket and withdrew a PADD. "Conspicuous valor in the line of duty, and dedication to the safety of others under your command. That's the way I wrote it, anyway."

"I was stoopid." Lyra retorted. "I almost died!"

"And because you did so, others did not. You took the responsibility to keep others safe. To endanger yourself." T'val took a moment. "Kathleen would have been proud."

"She was." Olivia paused. "Not because of what you did to save this station. For coming back from what you came back from."

"How do you know?" Lyra frowned. "This doesn't make sense."

Olivia tapped the PADD.

"People talk about Lyra Bogdonovich, and they see the damage. The things she has survived. The mistakes she made. It isn't common you find people who have the cards stacked this heavily against them, and still have the capacity to get up every time they get knocked down." Kathleen's voice came from the PADD. "She doesn't let other people's attacks on her capacities or lack there of stop her, either. She gets up. She fights. She fixes things. She finds way to save people's lives. I know people see the bizarre way she lives, but nobody ever gets to see the bizarre way she loves those around her."

Lyra looked down at the PADD in silence.

T'val grabbed Lyra's hand.

"It's not a Command." Olivia clarified. "Starfleet doesn't quite trust you with an entire starship."

"That is entirely logical." Lyra and T'val said, in unison.

"Still." Olivia took a moment. "You know, she had all these unsent letters to me. In one of them, she wrote about how she was devastated when you ended up in Starfleet Medical."

"I don't understand." Lyra frowned.

"Her dying wish." Olivia took a breath. "She wanted your career fixed. She wanted you to have the life that was taken from you."

"You did this?" T'val asked.

Olivia tilted her head. "Well. I have a lot of favors stocked up." She gestured to the PADDs. "I spent a few. For my sister. I feel like I owed her that, and she feels like she owed you this."

"So... Uhhh." Lyra looked down at the assignment orders. "You... You're serious?"

"S.C.E. Team Lead." Olivia nodded. "U.S.S. Yamauchi." She tilted her head. "Transport leaves at 0700."

T'val looked at her assignment orders. "U.S.S. Yamauchi." She echoed.

"Yes?" Lyra asked.

"Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Yamauchi." T'val held up the PADD.

Olivia smirked.

Lyra gave Olivia a confused look.

"Favors." Olivia winked. "Go. You both have to pack. And say your goodbyes."

"Don't really got many people to say goodbye to." Lyra said, quietly.

"Just Daniel." T'val agreed.

"Captain Daniels?" Olivia frowned. "He's... occupied. His wife's ship was damaged and the crew was taken."

Lyra looked worried. "What-?"

"Don't worry." Olivia shook her head. "We'll find them."

"You promise?" Lyra asked.

"Lorriettas keep their word, as a rule." Olivia held up Kathleen's PADD. "There's some photos on here she wanted you to have."

"Thank you, Olivia." Lyra nodded.

"Thank you." Olivia shook her head. "You gave her life meaning again."

"She did that." Lyra shook her head. "I had the fortune of being there."
