-Sickbay-

Steven whistled a happy tune as he looked over some crew health files. For the members of the crew who had been on board. When DS3 had vanished physically and mentally they were quite healthy.

He hoped once this convoy duty was over. They could start looking into what had happened. To their old station and home. Edgeware noticed a new name on the crew list. Just as he was about to see who it was the doors swooshed open. He turned around.

“ Hello May I help you?” Steven asked

Finchley walked through the Sickbay doors and before he could look around, someone spoke to him. "Yes" he replied, and looking down at the PADD he had with him he added "I'm looking for a Lieutenant Edgeware."

Steven had two scenarios he could play out here. The first pretend he was not Lieutenant Edgeware. Then pretend he had never heard of him. Thus running the risk of pissing off the new XO or…

“ You need look no further my kind sir. For you have indeed found Lieutenant Edgeware himself in the very flesh as they say. But please call me Doc. Everyone does except when I have cornered them for a physical. Then it is something a lot more colourful. But that’s under their breath. So who am I addressing here?” Steven said with a smile.

"Finchley Kerr" he replied to the Doctor, smiling back and offering his hand "I've just come onboard and would like to ask if you have a time that I can book to get my physical done, get all my papers in order so to say" he finished.

Steven gave Finchley a broad smile.

“ Are yes. Our new XO welcome to sickbay. Physical hmmm. I could do that now if you so wish? We could have a little chat first. You could try some of my famous coffee. Real coffee not something fizzled from thin air or that spicy Klingon muck everyone raves over.” Steven replied

"Now suits me just fine Doc" Finchley replied "and I haven't had real coffee in what seems like an age, so if it's on offer, get those beans raosted1" he laughed.

Steven smiled.

“ I always have beans on the roast. It takes away that antiseptic smell all sickbays have. Even a new vessel such as the Oberon. But and don’t tell a living soul…… the secrets in the water. I have a gallon of fresh Irish spring water. In storage on board it gives the coffee a much more mild taste. Here I have a pot ready.” Steven said as he poured Finchley a cup.” There’s cream , milk and sweeteners on the table. Enjoy.”

"Oh, your secret won't pass my lips, I promise" Finchley smiled "I just take it black" he finished.

Steven poured him a cup and passed it to him.

“ There you go. So how are you finding the Oberon so far?” Steven asked

"To be honest, I've only been here a couple of hours" Finchley replied, gratefully receiving the offered cup "and so far, those of the crew that I've met have been courteous and polite, same with yourself so thank you for that and this" he added, raising the cup.

Steven gave a sigh.

“ After what happened with DS3 it’s amazing how we have bounced back. A terrible thing to lose your home and friends….. must not get morbid. To the future..” Steven said raising his mug of coffee.

Finchley raised his cup in return and said "I'm sorry, I was out in the field and haven't managed to read up on what happened with yourselves. Could you give me a summary of what happened please."

Steven stood and looked at a picture on the wall.

“ To be honest Finchley we try not to think to much about it. I know Starfleet renamed another space station in honour of DS3. DS3…… we had some trouble with this abandoned wrecked freighter. Some corpses became reawakened due to Borg nano bots. They fled the station and we chased after them in the USS Pathfinder. When we returned there was a large empty space. Where DS3 should of been. No wreckage or radiation. Nothing. It was just gone.” Steven said

"No trace whatsoever" Finchley replied "that's highly unusual. Was there a Starfleet investigation team sent out?" he asked, his interest now piqued.

Steven traced a finger across the surface of the picture.

“ It was as if it had never been there. Starfleet ran a initial investigation but found nothing. Hopefully once our mission here is done. We will be going to look for the station. Anyway if your done with that mug. We’ll start on your physical.” Steven said

Finchley hadn't finished his drink but he could see that the conversation was a difficult one for the Doctor so he passed back the cup and replied "Yes, I'm done, so where would you like me?"

Steven pointed towards the first empty bio bed.

“ If you could lay yourself down on there please. So anything you need to tell me before we begin?” Edgeware asked

Finchley climbed onto the biobed and lay down as instructed. As he did so he answered the question asked of him "Well, a little tenderness around my right kidney, I did get a good kicking there recently on my last mission, got in the way of someone's foot several times" he laughed.

Steven looked up at the ceiling and gave a sigh.

“ Why is it that everyone thinks? That if their not coughing up blood after being turned into a live door mat. It’s ok not to report to a doctor asap. Let’s have a look see…. Your kidney you say?” Steven asked.

"Our Medic was killed during my last mission " Finchley replied "we only finished it up three days ago and I was ordered to report here straight away. Being as I was travelling on a freighter for those three days with no Doctor, only a First Aider, this is the first opportunity I've had to see an actual Doctor. Yes, my kidney" he finished.

Steven ran a probe over Finchley’s right kidney area.

“Sorry I did not know that. It’s just we have had a few incidents where crew members have dismissed. What they thought was just a small injury. But later on being wheeled in here. When said injury explodes in a blooded mess.” Steven said apologetically.

"That's alright Doc, you weren't to know" Finchley replied "So, what's the verdict?" he asked.

Steven checked the bio bed readings.

“ You have a compacted kidney stone. Nothing we can’t fix in one shake of a donkeys tail. You feel tender when urinating for a day. But otherwise you should be fine. Other then that you seem to be in good health. Well done.” Steven said

"Well, I'm glad it's nothing to serious" Finchley replied "I'll try to take it easier for a day or so, make sure I don't overwork
the whole urination thing. Is there anything else you need from me Doc?" he asked.

Steven shook his head.

“ Nope your free to go sir.” He said.

"Thank you Doc, I'll catch you later" Finchley said, getting down from the biobed and leaving Sickbay.
