Jeepers Creepers 2: Creepers In Flight
Location: Deep Space Three: Promenade Coffee shop
ON::
-Promenade Deep Space Three: Coffee shop-
Steven slowly walked around trying to get his bearings. Deep Space Three was a lot larger then a starship. Even if he had an extra head. Edgeware doubted he would be able. To take in all these new sights and sounds.
He almost bumped into another crewmen.
“ Oh shame on me. I almost bumped into you. Steven Edgeware pleased to make your acquaintance.” He said
Jordan had been on her way back to her office from a short briefing when she nearly collided with another crewmember. Closing her eyes for a moment to catch her bearings, she counted to ten to herself as this seems to be a new commonplace for her and hoped it soon would not be a habit. "No, it's alright. I wasn't really paying attention to my surroundings and reviewing a recent memo," she replied with a smile as she held up her PADD.
Steven could see by her skin colour that her blood pressure. Could be running a little high. He hoped it was just in annoyance. To his almost bumping into to her.
“ I tell you what. How about we have a nice mug of coffee. My treat , a kind of peace offering for being a blind ninny.” He said
She smiled and thought briefly of her schedule for the day. A short coffee break wouldn’t hurt. “I think I can go for some coffee,” she agreed, tucking her PADD into her arms.
Steven gave her his best smile.
“ Good. Now sadly I am a stranger here so you’ll have to lead the way my dear.” He said
Jordan nodded and lead them at a comfortable, yet brisk pace to a nearby coffee shop at the promenade. It was one of the better ones currently on the station and she was eager to see more facilities open in time. "It'll be some time before more shops are established but we are working on trading contracts with vessels and other regions, but it takes time and logistics," she shrugged.
Steven nodded in thought.
“ You know I have a very good friend. Bill is his name he was looking to open a bistro somewhere. If it is aloud I could give him a call. He serves English fare you know. Sausages and mash , Fish and Chips , Jacket Potato’s good honest food. But just listen to myself I sound like an advertisement. Tell me about yourself my dear?” Steven replied
"It's quite alright. Having more of a variety on the base would certainly be appealing. I am pretty new to the station myself and getting used to the pace of a starbase," she answered.
“ To be honest he is a bit of a rogue.Oh nothing dangerous if you know what I mean. He just tends to go a little over the top with some of his menu creations. But I am here to keep an eye on him.” Steven said.
He took of sip of his drink.
“ Oh pure nectar indeed. So where did you grow up? If you don’t mind me asking?” Steven asked.
"Earth," Jordan provided as a simple answer. "I grew up around Starfleet HQ so it wasn't unexpected that I would join as I got older."
Steven smiled as he took another sip. This was a really good drink.
“ It was the same with me really. My mother is I suppose the cause for my joining Starfleet. As soon as I qualified as a doctor she was on me to find a bride. I think she approached every single female in Ballybrack. I just did not feel like settling down at the time. So here I am.” He said
Jordan let out a snort. "I suppose I can understand something with that. I finished the Medical Academy but I found myself bored and wanting more - variety. Tending to daily headaches, and then counseling regularly on those that struggled with adjusting to their tours or difficult superiors became mundane. I went back and changed my focus."
Steven could understand that.
" With me I was born to be a doctor. My mother and father were doctors. I think though my mother pushed me more. When father was taken way to early. You see he tried to save a man who got o=into difficulties while swimming in the Irish sea. Sadly they both perished. She wanted me to take his place. So you can imagine how she took to me joining Starfleet medical." Steven said
"Not one for a private practice? Starfleet certainly is an adventure in any role," she admitted.
Steven nodded.
“ Don’t get me wrong. Ballybrack is a good place to grow up. But it’s no Dublin. The only aliens that visit it are the English. Plus my mother’s continued nagging about my marriage or lack of one. I just had to get away. Mind you after Harmony Bay. I nearly stayed in Ireland.” Edgeware said.
Jordan blinked as she looked back at him, a little confused as she tried searching her memory if she recalled anything about a Harmony Bay, however came up at a loss. "I'm sorry. What happened?" she asked.
Steven looked at her with concern.
“ We were talking about our backgrounds when your face went blank.” He picked up a probe and ran it over her head.
“ Do you know where you are and what is your name and rank?” He asked concerned.
She gave him a rueful smile and shook her head. "I know who I am and where I am. I just do not recall anything about a Harmony Bay incident. I was only trying to remember if I had heard something but drew a blank," she pointed out.
Steven felt embarrassed.
" Sorry. My mistake. Harmony Bay Mining Coloney. It was supposed to have been a rescue mission. I was serving as Deputy Assistant Chief Medical Officer on the USS Pathfinder. We had been told there had been a major cave in. Many miners were trapped. Due to the first officer needing surgery I did not join the rescue party. We then received a follow on message. There had been an accident and the Chief Medical Officer had been injured. I beamed down at once. It was all a lie. A group of Gorn privateers had raided the Colony. But in the attack their leader had been injured. As they had slaughtered the medical staff. They had sent out a fake S.O.S." Steven said stopping to take a breath.
" The Chief Medical Officer had been decapitated after refusing to help. I had to work on the leader with the Chiefs headless body at my feet. The leader was too far gone. But I pretended to work on him while the crew mounted a rescue mission for us." Steven continued
Jordan was speechless during his recount of the events he experienced. She believed she had been out on an assignment or tour when it happened, as she did not recall the details even after he told his story. "Wow, I can't imagine. Unfortunately, despite your CMO's objection to treating the hostile forces, he went against his own oath and the repercussions of that came back in the worst manner possible. I may not be in the medical area anymore, but I still have the knowledge and as much as I would want to object, a lost life isn't worth a fight like that," she murmured, turning her gaze into her cup.
Steven gave a sad nod. They finished their drinks in silence then after saying goodbye for now. They both went off in separate directions. To continue their duties on Deep Space Three.
