Meeting the New Boss

Posted on Thursday September 23rd, 2021 @ 7:12pm by Lieutenant Lisa Creed

Mission: Jeepers Creepers 2: Creepers In Flight
Location: Ops Center

[On]

Jo was in the Operations Center when she heard that a new Operations Chief had been selected, and it wasn't her. Typical. She had been doing a great job, so she was a little young, she had gotten a lot of experience in the last several months. She was a good wrench turner and was proving to be a good administrator too.

Jo wondered when she was going to report for duty. Jo was sure that she was with the executive officer right about now. The Duty roster was fairly light this morning. at least there were no malfunctions which was a good thing. The computers were all up even the shipyards were functioning normally. There was a bio-bed in sickbay that needed adjustments and Jo could handle that in an hour. She noticed that she was not invited to the senior officers meeting. Guess that wasn't her responsibility anymore. She wondered what this Lieutenant Lisa Creed was like.

After leaving the XO, Lisa entered the Ops centre and began looking around the big room to get her bearings and trying to find her new office and meet with the ensign that had been running the department, which was standard protocol and simply polite.

"Hello, Sir I am Ensign Jo Grant. Welcome to Deep Space Three. I have just been informed by the XO that you're the new ChOps. I yield the desk to you then."

"Greetings Ensign, I have heard good things about you and how you held this station together," she stated as she walked around the desk, she said, "you are relieved," taking her seat she said, "so status on everything Ensign with the promenade, who is the station liaison?"

"I believe that would be the XO, Lieutenant. The promenade is a ship-shape there have been some glitches with new equipment but with replacement parts and reprogramming our staff was able to get everything online. I've replaced several units in the intelligence CIC. Mostly due to worn parts. It took a long time to build this base and some parts are already past their replacement dates. We've been understaffed for some time now. I've been the only Ops officer on board for several months. I don't really have enough time in grade to be promoted, though I'm really good at my job, and the administration hasn't been too difficult to learn." Jo said.

"That he may be, I am talking about equipment-wise Ensign and personnel" Lisa stated looking at the young officer she gave him a stare and continued "So, How are we for personnel on the station In Operations?" as she wanted to know case she needed to request more bodies for the department.

"I took the liberty of cataloguing tools, supplies and personnel and adding it to the administrative files index for your convenience. For a base this size we are short of personnel. We have been short of personnel since the base became operational. Surprisingly, we seem to have everything we need to make repairs and upgrades. At least anything we've come across so far. Anything else we might need can be handled through fabrication plants." Jo replied. "Also there isn't an engineering staff assigned yet, so we are the closest things to engineers this base has, the for routine upgrades and maintenance the Starfleet Corps of Engineers comes out once a quarter for routine maintenance overhauls and upgrades," Jo added.

"So we are running the station's power systems am I correct?" asked Lisa as this was not good news; as she continued," So, what is the status of those systems?" looking back at Joanne as this needed to be taken up with either the XO or the Captain. She finished " I want a full status report within 3 hours so I may give it to the Captain."

"Sort of, I'm not an engineer. Like I said the Starfleet Corps of Engineers is currently maintaining the power core and the Power Distribution Systems (PDS). I just fix what is broken. Operations if the middle ground between science and engineering. Kind of a mixture of the two. Our main speciality is computer systems and you can run a level three diagnostic on the main and auxiliary power systems to get that information. I ran one last Tuesday trying to find a glitch in the replicator system. I found it eventually but it was due to a bad ODN (Optical data Node) connector, not the main power systems. We are holding our own though." Jo said.

"Very well, However; I still want that report Ensign," replied Lisa as she knew that by getting up to speed with how this station was functioning, she knew why people might have left here. "And I want a meeting with all section heads as soon as possible," as she wanted to get to know her senior staff.

"Computer, run a level three diagnostic on the power core and the power distribution systems." Jo requested.

"Working, compilation will take 12 minutes." The computer replied in a feminine voice.

"So Lieutenant tell me about yourself, I'd really like to know. I am the only section head we have at the moment." Jo stated.

Lisa looked shocked at her and asked "Why haven't you selected others on this station?" asking a question of her own as she knew now that she would have to select section heads for each of the station's infrastructure. as she walked around the desk to take her place behind her desk, " first off Ensign, and before you hear any stories about me," she continued " I do like women,"

"Lots of people do. And there is a reason for that. I used to have section leads but every time I get someone trained up they get transferred to starship duty." Jo said.

" I also started out as a Security officer but minored in Engineering," replied Lisa, looking back at Joanne, " I will be running a tough department here," as she didn't want to give too much away about her past yet.

"In fact now that you are here I expect to be transferred out any time now," Jo said.

"I'm afraid that will not be happening Ensign," replied Lisa; looking back at her she continued "As of this minute you are hereby promoted to Deputy Chief Operations with immediate effect," upon giving her the good news. This was vital to keeping the station going and Ensign Grant's knowledge was also Vital and helpful for her in the coming months.

"Thank you, Ma'am. Will there be anything else?" Jo asked.

"That will be all, Dismissed," replied Lisa as she knew now that she was to get her hands dirty and get to grips with this station and find out for herself what the station was like. she also had to find her quarters and familiarize herself with the station's layout

Ensign Grant turned and left.
