Mission:
EPISODE 1: SHAKEDOWN
Location: Sick bay
Timeline: MD03 1930 hours
On:
Jason staggered through the doors, his head pounding yet again with a headache, a nurse gabbed him as he stumbled, "If the Doc isn't busy I could use some help." A nurse helped him on too an examination table.
Steven had been busy in his new office. It was much smaller then the one on Deep Space Three. So he had much less storage space then before. A nurse hurriedly knocked on the door. She told him about Jason coming in. He followed her out into the main section of Sickbay.
“ Hello what seems to be the problem?” He asked
"I suffered a concussion a few weeks ago, but since I returned too duty I've been getting headaches and a few other issues." Jason said
Steven looked into Jason’s eyes. His irises looked larger then usual. Plus the pupils looked a little bloodshot. He ran a probe over the rest of Jason’s head.
“ Well go over who tended to you later. They need a stern word or two. Your brain has swelled due to haemorrhaging. It’s a miracle you have not had a stroke by now. Luckily your in one of the newest versions of a federation starship sickbay. You need emergency surgery now. Hopefully we can fix your brain in time. But if there are any memory’s you had today like a new code for your personal locker. It maybe a could idea to put it down in writing. Just in case your short time memory gets wiped.” Steven warned
"I've only been on board for four hours, I haven't had time too set up anything." Jason said he visibly winced again.
“ Very well relax we’ll have you fixed up in no time.”Steven said.
The operation did not take very long and went without a hitch. Jason was soon back in the main section of sickbay. Edgeware checked his readings on the bio bed and smiled. He liked it when things went well. Slowly Elliot began to come around.
“ Welcome back. How do you feel?” Steven asked
"Well enough, how long have I been here?" Jason asked trying to piece together events.
Steven checked the readings again.
“ An hour. You came in suffering from extremely painful headaches. Caused by a concussion that you suffered a few weeks ago. Whoever checked you over medically at the time. Did not do their job properly. You were very lucky indeed.” Edgeware reported
"I sort of remember that, so when am I cleared for duty?" Jason said trying to process the information.
Steven smiled to himself. It was good to see someone so eager.
“ Well. You have just had brain surgery if only minor.I want to make sure there is no lingering damages. So let’s give it a day. Just to make sure. So let’s check your long term memory. Tell me about your childhood. Where did you grow up?” Steven asked
"I grew up on earth, My dad died a few days after I got accepted into the academy, They were historians who'd travel lots." Jason paused "I have a sister who I haven't spoken too her in four years, my brother died and my mom disappeared, and a few months later my fiancé was murdered during an botched break in."
Jason decided to leave out some details "I took a four month leave of absence, I was assigned too a diplomatic mission, then spent most of my time in an archive until a transfer too deep space three." Jason lied about the 18 months after his Darleen was murdered, simply because it was classified.
The mention of Deep Space Three made Steven reach for a glass of water. After taking a sip he nodded.
“ Good good. Your long term memory seems to be ok. Let’s try short term. What did you have for yesterday’s breakfast?” He asked
"Coffee and I think either toast or a blueberry muffin." Jason knew bother might be correct since he's often had both.
Steven considered this. Standard breakfast for any Starfleet Officer. So long as they backed that up with a substantial meal later on.
“ Hmmm. Your weight seems a little lighter then it should be. Is this a normal breakfast for you? Do you eat a more substantial meal later?” Edgeware asked.
"I overslept the last few mornings, so I've been out of my usual routine since arriving." Jason said
Steven looked at him.
“ When you woke after over sleeping how did you feel?” Steven asked.” Did you oversleep before the head injury?”
"I've only ever overslept a few times in the past, mostly on days off or shore leave, but today was a first." Jason said.
It could of been due to the brain injury. The build up of pressure in Jason’s head. It reminded him of a case in Ballybrack of a childhood friend. Who fell out his tree house and hit his head. Although he swore he felt fine.Stevens mother insisted the child be taken to the nearest hospital. It was a good job she did. His friend had damaged his skull which was pressing on his brain. If left he could of suffered a stroke.
“ This is probably done to your injury. A sign the body gives of a danger building up. But hopefully it’s been diverted. Now about your diet. You need to eat more as your weight is rather low. Well put together a diet for you to follow. Tell me is there any foods you don’t like?” Steven asked
"I'm not that adventurous but I know I should be making efforts to take better care of myself, I'll just make my best efforts from here." Jason said
“ That’s always best. Talking of that I see you need a physical. We can do it today or you can come back.” Steven advised
"I'll follow up with you tomorrow, I've got a small mountain of information requests to get on before we start our mission." Jason said feeling more steady than earlier.
Steven nodded.
“ Then your good to go sir. Take it easy for the rest of the day and don’t forget to come back for your physical.” He advised.
Jason exited the sick bay, there were a couple of questions on his mind. He needed answers and those might unwrap the riddle of the time he lost.
