-Ten Forward-

With the USS Oberon back at the port. The investigations from the last missions were going well. Between Starfleet Intelligence and Security Trensu was starting to feel overwhelmed. The Captain had a bad reaction to the Radiation and other exposures to the toxic environment from the cargo the ships were carrying. The Captain was hospitalized in the ICU. The doctors had no idea how long he would be there or when he might recover. Lieutenant Commander Kerr is the temporary CO until Starfleet makes a decision on what happens next. There were rumors that Commander Kerr was looking to put someone in the XO position. The crew was enjoying the break during this transition and awaiting the next mission.


It had been a long day Trensu and been sitting at a table in 10 forward. He sipped his drink looking out the window and others as they came in and out. Trensu looked at the PADD in front of him of the ship's personal roster. Commander Kerr had asked him to take care of some of the duties of XO. Trensu had been around too long and knew he was being tested.

Trensu saw Doctor Edgeware walk into Ten forward. Trensu turned some and put the Padd in front of him as if he was reading it. Trensu hoping to not be notest. knowing that Tensu owes the Doctor a visit for a physical.

Rubbing his chin in thought Steven stood at the bar. It had been a long shift that was now over. Edgeware needed to unwind and 10 forward was just the place indeed.

“ I have a large glass of sparkling spring water. With ice and a slice of you please.” He told the bartender.

Was it his imagination or were people trying to avoid his gaze. Maybe he should hang a sign over his chest. Saying it was safe as he was off duty. One of the officers doing their best not to make eye contact was Trensu. Smiling he walked up to them.

“ Good day to you Lieutenant May I join you?” He asked, “It's ok I am off duty so I won’t be chasing you for a physical.”

Letting out a chuckle Trensu then smiled " yes, have a seat Lieutenant Edgeware. Offduty is there such a thing?" said Trensu with some sarcasm. He took a sip of his tea. "you don't have to be so formal here in ten forward with me." said Trensu. Then he sighed "scratch that. sorry well, for now on, call me Captain." He requested.

Steven took a seat.

“Please call me Steven. I never really like Doc as a nickname. For everyone, it is important to have some off-duty time. Otherwise, you will burn out. By the way, congratulations are in order Captain.” Steven said.

"Thank you, Steven" he replied taking a sip of his tea. " I think we should get some of the officers together for a drink for the ones that do. What do you think?," suggested Trensu.

Steven nodded.

“ I absolutely agree with you, sir. Many of this crew are still hurting over the loss of DS3. You need to make sure they visit our new counselor. I am hoping to book some seasons myself. But a good get together over drinks and nibbles is just what your Chief Medical Officer ordered. Better then my great great great grandmothers noted restorative pink grapefruit juice.” He said

"Some officers would get intimidated if I ask. Think you could spread the news. And see if we can muster up some interest?" Asked Trensu

Steven considered his new CO’s words.

“ Captain if I may speak freely?” Steven asked.

Trensu smiles "Steven, there are two people on this ship that can speak freely when one on one, well three. You, Lieutenant Korial, and the XO as long no one is around you don't need permission. What's on your mind?" said Trensu looking around to see who might have heard that.

“ Very well. Many of the crew have suffered a terrible loss. First, it was Deep Space Three, then two COs. They need a sense of stability and it must come from you and Mr. Finchley. They need to see you as their father figure. Someone that will not only lead us but also be there in their time of need. It is therefore imperative that you start as you need to go on. You must invite them for drinks and nibbles yourself. Otherwise, it will undermine your strength of command. Instead of seeing you as a father figure, they won’t trust you.” Steven advised.

starring at his tea Trensu thought for a moment. OK, Steven, I will I just have to word it in such a way that it does not sound like an order." said Trensu now taking a sip of his tea. "I think it's a great Idea I and the ambassador have that tradition anyways be for a mission. Who likes drinking alone anyways. I wall ways thought of it as a group function." suggested Trensu.

Steven nodded.

“ The only thing I will suggest. Is possible update the replicator menu? It’s list of nibbles is a little on the heavy side. You know mini hot dogs man’s hamburgers are fine for a reception. But a get together like your planning could do with perhaps some Sushi or there’s some Betazoid roasted vegetable treats. That go very well with a good wine.” He noted.

" That is a good idea. replied trensu. "I will ask Ambassador Destrek more on that and to help set it up I am going to make him sort of the Maral officer on the ship he asked to be more involved Before I will keep that last Captain's wishes." He said taking a drink.

Looking at a message on his padd Steven nodded and then got up.

“ I need to go and check on a patient in sickbay. Thank you Captain and once again congratulations on your promotion to Captain.” He said

"Thank you for the talk, Mr. Edgeware. I have to get back as well I have hidden long enough," said Trensu standing as well.
