Stepping up.

Finchley smiled as he read the order that had come in. He already knew the reaction that was going to come his way when he shared it with Karadis. Tapping his COMM badge he said, "Commander Kerr to Chief Karadis, please report to my office."

In the Intelligence office outer room, Karadis was reading over reports when her badge chirruped. Tapping it after the message came through, she replied "On my way Commander, Karadis out."

A short time later, Karadis pressed the chime by the door and waited for a reply.

"Come in" Finchley said, and as the doors opened Karadis walked in and up to the Commanders desk "You asked to see me Sir" Karadis said.

"Ah yes, Karadis, please, have a seat" Finchley said.

"I prefer to stand Sir" Karadis replied.

"You'll want a seat" Finchley said.

"I still prefer to stand" Karadis replied, no suspicion of what was going on.

"As you wish, but I still think being seated would be better for you, but that's your choice" Finchley said.

"Can I ask why you've asked me to come here Sir, only I'm a little busy with things?" Karadis asked

"Yes, I was just coming to that" Finchley said as he stood up. He walked round his desk and leaned up against the edge of it facing Karadis "I've just been given some news, that is, some good news."

"I'm happy for you Sir, and I presume you want to share it with me?" Karadis asked.

"Oh yes, I most certainly do, and it's going to make me sooooooo happy" Finchley said, sounding a little like a giddy schoolboy.

"Well?" Karadis asked, now folding her arms in front of her.

"I just received a promotion communication and I needed your opinion" Finchley said.

Karadis unfolded her arms, this wasn't like Kerr, he didn't normally ask for her opinion on such matters, but, given that he was, she would give an honest answer.

"Very good Commander, I'll do my best to give an 'honest' opinion" Karadis replied.

"Good...good..." Finchley replied "because, you see, this person has been known to be rather difficult at times. Sometimes demanding, sometimes stubborn, at other times foolhardy and sometimes just completely nuts. However, they can also be very good at their duty, just...not really a team player, more of a soloist."

"Those don't sound like very good qualities in that person Sir" Karadis replied "are you sure they really should get the promotion?" she asked.

"Ooooooooohhhhh yes, this will be quite the thing to...focus them" Finchley said "Show them that being a team player can bring benefits."

"Who is this person?" Karadis asked.

Finchley could no longer contain the little childish grin that had wanted to spread over his face ever since Karadis had come into his office.

"You..." Finchley replied, delight now showing on his face.

"WHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!" Karadis yelled at him, taking a step towards Finchley.

Pretending to be frightened and running around his desk to be on the far side, away from Karadis he continued "Yes, you've been promoted to Ensign, not only that, but you've been made Assistant Chief Intelligence Officer!"

Karadis was now enraged "WHAT DIM WITTED, STUPID, IDIOTIC MORON MADE THAT DECISION!!!!!" she shouted.

Finchley just grinned back.

"IT WAS YOU!!!!!" Karadis continued shouting, pointing an accusing finger at him "YOU DID THIS!"

"Yes" Finchley laughed "Isn't it delightful, you're now an Officer now, congratulations Ensign, your training begins tomorrow."

"I'LL KILL YOU!!!" Karadis yelled "YOU KNOW I DON'T LIKE OFFICERS!!!!!!"

"And now you can hate yourself as well" Finchley giggled, enjoying the situation immensely "You deserve this."

Karadis began stalking him round his desk, but as she moved, Finchley moved as well "Just think, you'll have to learn how to use a knife and fork when you eat" he laughed hysterically.

Karadis made a lunge for Finchley but he skipped out the way and ran for his office door and out into the corridor, laughing as he did.

Karadis sprinted after him out of the room, all the while yelling, "WHEN I CATCH YOU I'M GOING TO KILL YOUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!"
