Wakey, wakey

Finchley entered Sickbay and walked over to Niali's biobed. Looking down at her, he saw the remarkable job Steven had done to heal the visible wounds that Niali had received from her assailant. He needed to find out more of what had happened to her, so gently taking hold of her hand he said

"Wakey, wakey sleepyhead", but there was no immediate response.

He tried again "Wakey wakey Niali", still nothing.

He tried one last time "NIALI, BRUTUS IS CLAWING THE FURNITURE AGAIN!"

Niali’s eyes shot open and she grabbed his hand tightly” TOR” she almost screamed as if her hoarse voice would have let her. “Where is he……? Brutus never claws furniture.” She admonished him and relaxed her hand. Finchley?”

"It's alright Niali" Finchley replied "I had to try and waken you from your sleep and a familiar name mostly does the trick. How are you feeling?"

Niali began to laugh and stopped, grimacing in pain. “Like I’ve been beaten within an inch of my life and then some.” She grimaced again. “You found me, how long?” She asked.

"You've been out for four hours" Finchley replied.

“Where is he Finchley, where is Tor? It was him, he was waiting for me in my quarters wanted to know my command codes, I didn’t tell him, I wasn’t going to tell him……and……then he started on Brutus. God damn it I told him.”


"Tor's in the brig Niali" Finchley replied. He was rather concerned to hear how Tor had managed to extract the Command codes, this was a conversation they would need to have, but down the line, not now.

"Listen, he can't touch you now, but believe me, we'll find out why he wanted them in the first place" he continued, reaching down and kissing her "What's important now is that you recover as quickly as you can, there'll be no lazing in bed on my watch!" he laughed.

Niali looked serious, “He has the shield codes Finchley. Look let me get up out of here.” She attempted to raise but could not. “Okay so I’m not able to yet, find out if he was in engineering?” Her hand hit the bio bed and she swore. “Does the Captain know? how is Arle? does she know that Tor tried to kill me?” Niali burst out all her questions at once then fell asleep as her pain infusion kicked in.

Unable to answer any of Niali's questions as she had fallen asleep again, Finchley pondered on what she'd said about Engineering...why would she think he'd got here. If he had her Command codes, he could easily access what he needed from any terminal anywhere on the ship. This was too odd a coincidence.

Niali woke what seemed to her days later. In reality it was only a couple of hours. There seemed to be no one around and she very much wanted to talk to Arle. She could not see her comm either and she wanted to tell Finchley that Tor had mentioned engineering by name. So she sat up slowly feeling only minor discomfort in her chest. She swung her legs over gently and pushed herself to the ground. It had been too much and she sat down on the floor pain shooting through her leg.

“ Hey hey hey what is all this ma’am. You need to take it slow. That was some beating you took we could of lost you.” Steven said helping her up.” Your muscles need time to get used to being whole again.” He said as he scanned her leg.

“ Hmmm. Thankfully that little wobble has not done any damage. If you do want to get up and walk around. We can fit you with a leg brace to help you walk. It can be hidden under your clothing so no one will see.” He informed her.

Niali looked gratefully at the CMO and grimaced. “I would love to go back to bed and sleep some more but, as you know the situation here is critical. Tor wanted me out of the way for a reason.” She grimaced in pain again. “Doctor I would appreciate your offer of a brace for my leg and some of your good pain relief. Then I need your help!”

“ Well. You really should be resting. But if I accompany you. Then at least your have medical supervision should you need it. We’ll have to send someone else out with the away team. Then yes you can leave. But please be careful. Well fit you with a leg brace. Once your in uniform it won’t show.” Steven said

Karadis walked into Sickbay and over to Niali and Steven. Her face was surly and serious as she spoke to Niali "Kerr sent me to tell you he's heading out with his Away Team now. With the Captain and him both being off ship, providing Doctor Edgeware confirms you're fit for duty, you'll be in temporary Command of the ship. His orders to you both before he leaves though is that he wants both of you cross examine Tor, find out why he attacked Niali, why he wanted the Command codes and why he's been prying around sensitive area's of the ship. Tor doesn't leave the brig though, under any circumstances. I have to go back, I'm on Kerr's team" and with that, she nodded to both of them and left.

Niali looked at The CMO. “I am sorry you have been involved in this Doctor especially with the Captain being unwell also but I will however be relying on you to help me with Tor. I am sure Korial will want to give me some ‘advice’ on his interrogation and, because of what he did to me I must admit to feeling a certain desire to beat the living daylights out of him!” She smiled wanly at her joke, although she was beginning to feel a desire to do so. *bring on my inner Klingon* she thought to herself. Although she felt much like going to bed for a long while she knew she was now in command of the Oberon.

Steven had looked over Tor’s medical file. What he saw made him realise it was a miracle Niali had survived. The guy could of squashed her into a gooey mess. Steven had wanted to speak with Karadis. He owed her an apology but she left before he could say anything. It would have to wait they had more important things to worry over. Such as how do you get someone capable of breaking. Every bone on your body with one hand. To cooperate in an interview.

“ He hurt a member of our family. We have tweaked your leg brace so it will look like he did not injure that badly. Plus you can kick him in the groin and it will make his voice so high. Only Bats , Vulcans and Ensign Hmong will hear him” Steven said

She smiled, “So Doctor Edgeware you are declaring me fit to return to duty?” Niali asked although She felt decidedly like not being fit for duty.

“ Yes. Just be careful please.” Steven said.
