Genevieve hadn't really had time too think about Jason being gone, she had gotten wrapped up in some stellar observatory data and as she liked to do when she didn't want too be thinking about what might happen on the camping trip. But her worries were interrupted by the realization she hadn't had anything too eat let alone that the time was well past when she was off duty.
Walking down the corridors she passed Jason's quarters, she wanted to slip in and even if it was only for a moment look at his desk with the small collection of strange objects and old books. But she restrained herself from the school girl obsession and walked down too her small quarters, they weren't as large or luxurious as a senior officer's quarters but she had her privacy. She tossed her uniform jacket on the desk only too discover a black box on the desk with a silver bow on it.
she smiled she knew Jason had left it for her, she opened the lid. Inside was a small pendant resembling the Tattoo on Jason's left shoulder, it was a tribal sun with a small blue stone, she didn't really understand the significance of the symbol but she found it quite fascinating and smiled when she looked at it, after putting it on she looked at it in the mirror, too most it would look like some small token of affection. After changing into a more casual look she decided too head over too the lounge for a drink and too see if there was anything going on, maybe a drink.
As she walked into the lounge, there wasn't many people around. She walked over too the bar and ordered a glass of wine, looking out seeing the bustle of the ship yard she saw numerous ships many of which she didn't recognize moving around, she saw what she thought too be a cargo tug pass under the ship, he thoughts turned too Jason again, she decided too go over his quarters and have a moment.
Walking back down the corridor she paused at the door, she keyed in the lock code and stepped in. The room was dimly lit, she looked over at his desk and saw one of the journals Jason kept on the desk, it was a dark red color with a symbol similar too the necklace she'd just received from Jason, the cover was a hard leather she ran her fingers over the embossing, a collection of runes were under the symbol she didn't recognize. She sat at his desk and opened the cover;
Property of Karl Elliot was on scratched out on the cover page and Jason's name was scrawled in it's place. She flipped over too the next page, it was yellowed from age, it was mostly notes about some strange creatures from the Eridani cluster and the failed attempts too capture them and the resulting mayhem including the graphic recounting of the deaths of several colonists. Gen turned more pages, it detailed the recovery of an artifact believed to be Iconian. She sat back startled, Jason's family were some kind of treasure hunters was her first thought, the she remembered the creature,' who were these people?'
Before putting the book back down she found a note from Jason:
Dad spent years teaching me about the hidden horrors of both earth and the galaxy on the whole, but I have no interest. That life took my family and Darleen, I hate these people and their work, they should leave it too the professionals.
The back cover had what looked like a note card with what looked like stellar coordinates in a neat list of eight locations, three of which were nearby. Putting the card back she sat back in the large chair, she knew there was some animosity between Jason and his family, she didn't really understand why until now. As she stood up from the chair she saw on the book case a Klingon dagger of some kind on the shelf, she'd seen it before and thought it was a menacing thing too keep, then she saw the symbol on the sheath. It was the pendant symbol again, with the imperial coat of arms for the empire behind it along with two markings in Klingon that she didn't recognize.
As she started too leave she paused, she knew that Jason was complicated, even for someone who wasn't in intelligence. As she left she caught a glimpse of a couple of lower deck crew doing some repairs, she walked down the corridors too her quarters, she stepped in and looked at the time, it was well past 0100 when she finally climbed into bed.
