Engineering Update

Posted on Monday November 9th, 2020 @ 3:26am by Captain Tobias Bishop III

Mission: The Forgotten Outpost
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Current

Still reading the stack of PaDD from Bogdonavich, Tobias decided to go the 'in person' route.

"Bishop to Bogdonavich, report to the ready room."

Lyra stared up at the ceiling and took several moments to recollect herself. "Can it wait?" She asked, with a wince. She nudged one of the officers, and passed a PADD along to another officer. She shook her head, and began heading for the turbolift, already guessing the answer.

"I need a status update, and would rather do it in person if you can see your way clear of the engineering bay for a short while." Tobias answered.

"The status is-" Lyra took a deep breath, and gave a frustrated look at the roof. "Things are not good. We have installed an inhibitor that is supposed to prevent nanites from communicating with each other. The problem begins-" Lyra winced. "-we have no idea where they came from." Lyra gritted her teeth. "And I'm trying to figure that out but my thought process has enough interruptions."

"If we can figure out a general time frame of when they came aboard, we might could track them back to a ship, or shipment."

"With all due respect, I lost my handy intel advisor when she blew a hole in the side of the station to save our lives." Lyra closed her eyes. "I'm here to fix things. You want people to analyze statistics and sensor readings, you need a security officer or a scientist."

"I was more suggesting that you spear head the team, not necessarily do the work yourself."

"There are 75 people working on this." Lyra said, irritated. "I have two capable hands. I do not sit on the sidelines and give orders when there are critical problems to be fixed."

"I hate to break it to you Lieutenant, but what you just described is the very definition of being a department head, particularly the head of a department as large as yours."

"No." Lyra tried to restrain her irritation. "I am not a paper pusher. I fix things. It's what I do. It's what we all do. You're not going to find me holding fancy board meetings and making flow charts. We've got a station to save. That's my job. It's supposed to be yours, too."

"I am not telling you not to work. I am trying to tell you to learn to delegate. Maybe not try to do everything yourself. And finding out how these things got on board is a big part of fixing this mess."

"I AM DOING THE DELEGATING!" Lyra shouted. "How these things got on board is kind of hard to investigate without being able to trace a point of origin and they are making that very difficult. Like killed one of my best friends difficult. Feel free to ask Security to do a better job so I can do a better job of mine."

"If that is all, you are dismissed, Lieutenant." Tobias said, stiffly, determined to not lose his composure with this woman.
