Mission:
The Forgotten Outpost
Location: Marine Barracks- Common area
Kai finished setting up her area of the barracks. She was humming to herself. ‘Its a beautiful day in the neighborhood if Del remembered it correctly. She was always singing, like a little song bird. It brightened up everyone around her. As if her joy was infectious even. It Made Del smile.
He moved further down the row of bunks and the bodies moving around them. Everything orderly and as it should be. The new recruits had settled in easily enough. Del himself had taken a bunk in the barracks with the rest of the men. Electing to let individuals earn a few nights sleep there for excellent work reports. He had his office for work and didnt crave the isolation of privacy in his regular life.
He smiled and waved to a few of the team leaders as he passed. Yanna was giving them the run down for the new security rotation schedules to pass down to their units, So he elected not to distract them from that. Private first class Blake had a temper and didnt like her work distracted by anyone, himself excluded only due to her high regard for him. A stroke of luck he thanked the lady Goddess for everyday.
He went to the broadcast wall and checked all the posted schedules/ Who did he want to bother today? Alpha team was in the holodeck running the first aide and rescue training drills. He didnt feel that ambitious today. Bravo was in holodeck 12 with hand to hand and then rifles training. Fun fun, Die loved to shoot. He made a mental note to come back to that. Charlie team was on the field doing demolition basics. Ooooh, damn that's just as fun as shooting. Okay come back to it. Delta team was doing the station tour today AKA Security detail. Echo Team was doing equipment checks, swimming certifications, Hmmm interesting, and then scheduled to take over for Team FoxTrot on the nightly watch for the barracks. Foxtrot was going into the galley, While Gama …. He stopped rubbing his eyes. “Demolitions it is.” He said turning from the wall.
There were always several other classes or private drills the Marines could do to fill their duty shifts. They had to cover so many hours in certain areas a week. It was simple and as long as you minded your duty rotations there was a certain amount of freedoms allowed.
Del liked a calm, easy environment and he also felt that most men and women knew their strengths and weaknesses enough to pick their drills according to their needs as well as their training. He encouraged growth and self improvement. He also was a big fan of the team mentality. Teams looked out for each other and helped to guide their peers. It was an efficient checks and balance system. Del tested them monthly and then evaluated them to make sure they were meeting the goals they needed to hit. This kind of comradery brought all of them together, made them think and fight more proficiently as they all knew to do their personal best and trust their team if things went south.
Not that there weren't the occasional disputes. Usually they were taken care of long before anyone wanted to bring it to his attention. He mused about that and other random things as he walked along and just simply enjoyed the serenity of the controlled chaos that was his life. He smiled and for the first time in a very long time he felt like he could relax. Felt like this could be a place to call home for a while.
