Mission: The Forgotten Outpost
Location: Intelligence Center DS3
Timeline: 239501.11

[ON]

Ensign Jo Grant had a fitful nights sleep tossing and turning. This was a new assignment and she wasn't quite comfortable with new places until she had a chance to really explore everything. She got up showered and dressed for the day then went down to the officers mess and had some banana pancakes. Her favorite was Belgium waffles but she usually saved those for a special event.

After breakfast she decided to have some exploration fun, sort of learn the lay of the land just as she had found the arboretum she got a message to report to the Intel center as they were having issues with some of there systems.

Jo acknowledged the order grabbed her toolkit and padded to the Intel Center.

Once she got to the appropriate deck, and got through security, she was escorted into the Intel center.

"Hello, I am Ensign Jo Grant, what is the nature of the problem?" Jo asked.

'Ensign Grant,' Sakaan stood at the door to her office. It stood off to the side of the Starbase's capacious Intelligence Center, 'I trust you had no problems accessing the Center?' She drew herself to her full height as she stalked over to the shorter human.

"No Ma'am. The body cavity search was surprisingly gentle. Actually I had to be escorted in. apparently you do work here that is above my classification level. I'm new to this station and quite frankly am still finding my way around here too. How can I be of service?" Jo asked.

Raising an eyebrow, Sakaan was unsure whether the comment about a cavity search was a joke or not. Best not to respond to that. She didn't know the Ensign at all, and didn't know how a light-hearted comment would be taken. She wiped her hands together, 'a lot of work here is classified at the highest levels.' She pointed across the room, past the inactive central holographic projector, to a set of closed double doors, 'if you ever need to receive one of our briefings, you'll have them in there. Shielded against all but the most determined scans.'

She folded her hands behind her back once more and motioned to the Operations officer to follow as she walked. 'Unfortunately not much work is being done currently. None of the terminals work, the holographic projector is down, and the lights flicker. We believe it to be one or more power relays, but we would like you to confirm it, and get a team to repair it or them as required.'

"Okay Jo said, placing her tool kit on a console. She went over to the Power relay junction and pulled out the wall panel. she then went back to her toolkit which contained :

-Phaser Welding Torch
-Interphasic Coil Spanner
-ODN Recoupler
-EM Field Manipulator
-Coil Spanner
-Iso-Modulator
-Portable Trident Scanner
-ODN Scanner
-Sonic Driver
-Phase Decompiler
-EJ-7 Interlock

She took out the portable trident scanner and started tracing circuits back to the power relays. Jo traced the problem to two relays. one had a bad transtator module which she pulled out and replaced. the lights stopped flickering and the holographic projector went online. she rook the ODN recouplet and inverted the phase making it a de-coupler and carefully removed the dead relay.

"Yes you got two relays out, I fixed one the other will have to be replaced. The one that is fixed has a bad transtator module. Jo pulled out the showed the bad transtator to Lt Sakaan. I'll have to go back to ops and replicate a replacement for the relay, Lieutenant." Jo said.

'That was remarkably efficient work, Ensign.' Sakaan did not let her emotion show, but she was extremely impressed. 'I've seen teams of Ops.workers who've not managed that work in the time you have.'

"Yes Ma'am I have a knack for fixing things. I shouldn't be more than a half an hour." Ensign Grant said.

'Sakaan nodded, and motioned her towards the door, 'that is a more than acceptable timeframe Ensign. We will await you with baited breath - I'm sure you can tell that my department is eager to get on with its work.'

Jo was escorted out of the Intel center and hustled back to ops, got on her computer and punched up the spec on the 01G transtator module and the SGC67G relay, punched up the pattern and replicated a new one. It only took about fifteen minutes total. She was back at eh intel center at precise 1/2 an hour.

She installed the new relay module with an ODN recoupler then installed the transtator module. She noticed a slight humming in the power ODN cables so she adjusted and tuned that with the Iso-Modulator as well.

She crawled out of the access junction and replaced the wall panel.

"Excuse me Lt Sakaan I have completed the work. Would you mind testing your equipment. Everything should work now." Ensign Grant said.

The Intelligence Officer waved to a subordinate to try one of their consoles. Switching the machine on, they were rewarded with the tell-tale hum of the machine coming to life. A few others also tried their terminals and found them to be in good working order. Sakaan nodded in satisfaction as they observed the machines operating in a standard fashion. 'A job well done, Ensign,' she remarked dryly.

ensign Grant nodded.

"Most Kind, Ma'am. Jo replied.

"If you have any further need of me please contact me in Ops." the Ensign continued.

'Very well, Ensign,' Sakaan nodded curtly, and motioned towards the door. 'You may consider yourself dismissed.'
