Posted on Friday January 21st, 2022 @ 2:42am by Lieutenant Commander Curzon Bennett & Lieutenant Commander Jennifer Miller

Mission: EPISODE 1: SHAKEDOWN
Location: Betazed, Spacedock
Timeline: MD1 1600hrs

::ON::

The stars streak by as Lieutenant Trensu looks over the panel in form of him. The type 11 shuttle was moving at warp now for hours. Trensu and Ambassador Destrek with Ensign Grant had been on a mission investigating some weapon smuggling. They had been gone for some time when they got the message to go to Betazed and report to the USS Oberon. Trensu got Assistant Chief Security and Tactical, Ensign Grant got Operations. Destrek pulled some strings and got assigned as well as an Ambassador. Destrek would help with any border disputes that would come up. Rumor had it they would be on the border of Klingon space. Trensu found it interesting and coincidental that they were just there. Now assigned to the USS Oberon.

JoAnne couldn't believe it, just as they had finished with the covert mission, the entire base has somehow disappeared. now they were on their way to Betazed.

"What could have happened to them?" Jo asked

Ambassador Destrek turned to JoAnne "we don't know exactly Grant. The command is keeping it secret. Even I or Trensu can access the report."

Looking back at Ensign Grant Trensu "The Ambassador is right I have only seen this in cases that Star Fleet wanted to keep things quiet. if the enemies of Star Fleet hear they lost a station and ship they might try to take advantage of the situation. We all had friends on DS3 I would like to know what happened to them. I have a feeling that's why we are headed to the USS Oberon and I hope to get some anwers." Explained Trensu.

Everyone was quiet for some time thinking about what had happed so far each person doing what they needed to during the trip.

Sometime later Trensu heard an evil chuckle from Destrek. "Are we there yet?" Destrek yelled out chuckling trying not to spill his coffee as he sat up from his relaxed position in the chair.

Trensu grumbles some. "For the one-hundredth time, no!" replied Trensu taking a sip of his tea then chuckled too. "Destrek, help out and go get some sandwiches from the replicator," requested Trensu.

Destrek let out a laugh "Now reduced to a waiter? and whose life did I save?" He asked Trensu.

Trensu let a small chuckle out "you don't have to rub it in I did not know she was married," said Trensu.

"But was she worth it?" Destrek asked him.

"She was fun and a good time," replies Trensu.

"Sandwiches, do you want a refill on the tea?" asked Destrek.

"Sure thanks," said Trensu.

They were at warp for a few more hours the banter continued as they traveled. As they came out of warp Betazed and the shipyards were in front of them.

"Shuttle Timberlen to USS Oberon, requesting permission to land," the area was busy with shuttles darting around and ships moving from one place or another. As they got closer it was a Luna-class NCC-80110 was what the scanner said. It had the new ship look. "Hay Destrek there is our new home," said Trensu.

Destrek jump into the seat next to Trensu "it looks New. I wonder if it has that new ship smell?" commented Destrek.

"I don't know, probably," replied Trensu.

"Shuttle Timberlen permission granted bay 1 pad 4."

"This is Shuttle Timberlen on final approach," said Trensu. The shuttle flew alongside of the ship to get a good look at the ship close up they made their final turn and entered the shuttle bay it was busy with supply and personnel moving around like bees in a hive. After Trensu shut the shuttle down. He opened the door a Petty officer from Security was there. "Welcome gentlemen and ma'am to the USS Oberon , our orders" she requested. Trensu handed over the Padds she looked them over "Lieutenant Trensu, sir," looking over the other, "Ambassador Destrek, Sir and Ensign Grant, ma'am" she made some notes on her Padd and hand them back "Gentlemen and ma'am the CO or XO is on the bridge. Report there." said the Petty Officer. They thanked the Petty Officer and made their way to the Bridge.

Bennett was inspecting his newly-acquired command. That it had been an unexpected assignment was an understatement. He had fully expected working out his assignments in the vicinity of Betazed for the rest of his career given his family commitments. Instead, he found himself making a circuit around the bridge of the Oberon. She wasn't the flashiest or most top-of-the-line ship in the fleet, but she was hers.

The Bridge was thankfully quiet, devoid of people as he went about checking this station and that, and pushing the occasional interface to see its response.

The doors of the turbolift opened Trensu and the others walked onto the Bridge looking to one side they saw the Captain, Lieutenant Commander Curzon Bennett. Trensu recognized him from a report given about him and the command. Trensu and Ambassador Destrek memorized faces and names from the report on the staff.

"Ensign Grant, can you see what's going on with the Op's station that the Captain is at," Asked Lieutenant Trensu.

"Yes Sir." Jo said.

Jo made her way over to the Ops station.

"What seems to be the problem Sir?" Jo asked.

'The console interface seems to be shorting out,' Bennett replied with forced calm in his voice. 'Seems that whenever I ask for personnel manifests for the Diplomatic Department, it brings up plasma conduit diagnostics - would you mind having a look, Ensign?'

"Not at all Sir. Just let me get down and remove the panel, so I can check for a short or circuit anomaly." Jo replied.

Jo got down removed the panel and started troubleshooting. She ran a scanner through the optronic relays, This led her to the interlink sequencer which was well below standard specs. She tried to adjust it but the part was bad and needed a replacement.

"Sir I have good news I found the problem. There is an interlink sequencer that is going bad in optronic relay 4. I tried to adjust it but it needs to be replaced. Why don't you use ops 2 while I replicate a new one, I can have it fixed in less than 10 minutes. These 76J sequencer modules have always been the problem. They have a high Bit error rate (BER) in the lower subspace bands. This particular module is failing. This is in turn is confusing the console input-output buffers. I can make the console even more efficient if I replace the 76J module with an 82N sequence module. The relay will certainly work better and when we get to our destination, I can replace/upgrade all the sequencers in the other 3 relays with 82N modules as well," Jo said.

Bennett raised an eyebrow, impressed at the quick diagnosis and reeling off of parts and their effects. 'I'll certainly bear that in mind going forward,' he said with a smile. 'Perhaps we can have a report if it's not too much to ask for.'

The new Security chief and Ambassador walked up to the Captain and stood at Attention "Sir! Lieutenant Ahkhsu Trensu reporting in as directed by Starfleet," said Trensu.

Ambassador Destrek standing less ridged putting his hand out to shake. "Ambassador Destrek, reporting in, Happy to be of service to you, Sir," he said with a smile.

Lieutenant Commander Miller, who was currently sitting in the XO chair on the bridge, smiled as she saw the unfolding exchange between the Captain and the ship’s latest arrivals. It wasn’t so long ago that she herself was an aspiring young officer, eager to impress the person in charge.

Her gaze switched to Bennett for a moment. The man stood tall and proud, and yet she sensed a slightly hesitation in his gait. She wondered how the man was feeling and how he would be approaching his newly acquired command. She smiled again. At least it would be a while before she would have the headache of command.

'At ease Lieutenant,' Bennett replied with a smile towards the Security Officer. 'And welcome Ambassador Destrek. Your reputation precedes you. I'm sure you'll be of great assistance to the Diplomatic Department aboard ship once we're underway.' The newly-appointed captain turned back to Trensu, 'you must be our Assistant Chief of Security?'

"Yes. Captain That is what my orders are, Sir. But you're the Captain. If you are not happy with me in that position. I will work where you want me to." Trensu said with respect.

Destrek looked at Trensu "down tiger" he said with a grin and some sarcasm in his voice. "Gentlemen I will leave you to the operations of the ship. I will take my leave and go find my office I am sure I have hundreds of messages waiting for me. Good day, Captain." He gave a nod to the Captain and walked back to the turbolift walking in and leaving the bridge.

Tensu gave a nod to Destrek. "Ambassador," Trensu said as he left. Trensu turned back to the Captian. "Sir, back to my assignment what would you like me to do?" asked Trensu.

Bennett nodded after the Ambassador, then turned back to Trensu. 'Perhaps you'd care to introduce me to the other officer who came on board with you? And perhaps you could introduce yourself to the Ex-Oh over there,' Bennett replied with a slight smile as he tucked his hands behind his back. 'Then get yourself stowed away and familiarised before launch. Your superior has yet to arrive so you are the ranking officer for your department.'

"Yes sir" replied Trensu. Turning to Ensign Grant Trensu said "Sir, this is Ensign JoAnne Grant Operations officer. She and I and the Ambassador just got back from a mission. If you will excuse me I will go see the XO.

"A pleasure to be part of your command, Sir." Jo said.

'I'm sure you'll be a valuable addition to the crew,' Bennett replied with a smile. 'Particularly if you can fix things as quickly as you did that console.'

JoAnne smiled. "Thank you, Sir!" The diminutive blonde replied.

Trensu walked over to the XO who seemed to be looking over a Padd. Trensu waited to be acknowledged. "Commander Miller, I am Lieutenant Ahkhsu Trensu, Assistant Chief Security and Tactical Officer. I was asked by the CO to check in with you," said Trensu respectfully.

Jennifer looked up from the PADD, slightly embarrassed that she had not noticed the man standing there earlier. She placed the PADD down on the armrest of the chair and got to her feet. She straightened her tunic with a slight tug of her uniform and smiled warmly. “Lieutenant Trensu, a pleasure to have you onboard Oberon. I have been reading over the crew files and yours was quite an interesting read. Looks like you have quite a promising career ahead of you.”

Returning the smile. "Thank you, ma'am. I strive to be the best officer I can be in Star Fleet. I have reviewed the files on the Command and staff I think you and the CO put together a great team. I look forward to working and learning from the team ma'am." Trensu said respectfully. Trensu looked around quickly then back at the XO. "Ma'am, is there anything I can do for you or the CO? I am here to help and to get the ship and Security Department ready for lunch." Trensu inquired.

Jennifer frowned, deep in thought for a moment. She took a seat back in the XO chair and looked up at the man, “There is currently no sign of Lieutenant Torrel checking in. Starfleet Security is currently scouring his last known location, but so far there is no word on them finding him. It's quite concerning.” She paused for a moment, “perhaps you could ensure that security and tactical departments are prepared for launch?”

Trensu was quiet for a second He was not sure how to answer that. Trensu hope the other officer was alright. "I had heard the same thing and now Ma'am you confirmed it. I will make sure my stuff is stored and get on that task." He paused and wondered what they even got done so far. Trensu gave a smile "Ma'am if you need anything just contact me," said Trensu.

Jennifer bowed her head in quiet thankful acknowledgement. Getting a ship ready for launch was hard enough without crew members going missing and setting everything back. At least with Trensu now temporarily heading things up, the security and tactical departments would be ready for launch. Hopefully.

“My thanks Lieutenant.” the XO nodded. “Dismissed.”

"Thank you for your time ma'am." said Trensu. He turned to walk towards the door giving the CO a nod. Trensu waited for the turbolift doors to open, then walked through into the turbo lift.

Bennett leaned over to his Executive Officer. 'Interesting man. I believe he's at least part El-Aurian,' he observed in a low voice.

“Mhm, I agree.” Miller replied in a whisper, “To think he was found by a Federation ship more than 130 years ago. And he has extensive knowledge of combat and battle tactics. He’ll be a fine asset to the crew I’m sure.”

'That he will,' replied Bennett with a wide smile. His PADD chirped. 'If you'll excuse me,' he said a little exasperated. 'I'm expected for another briefing.'
