Mission: Shore Leave
Location: Intelligence Offices
Timeline: MD 0; 0800hrs

On:

Jason had the offices too himself for the first time in weeks, no disruptive presences, no drama, nothing. Well okay not nothing. Jason had no one around outside of some communications tech who had been assigned to cover the communications intercept work that was no longer being covered until the crew rotation was finished tomorrow. He was waiting on two new intelligence officers as well.

He had their respective files open on the twin monitor computer terminal that mysteriously was set up in his office. On the right screen was the file for a young junior grade lieutenant who had three years field time and had started working the Romulan counter intelligence desks at Starbase Leighton, good record, and so on. On the left screen was an academy graduate whose grades and ambition looked great but no field time, no intelligence desk time, no investigations, nothing. Jason looked at the file, he was assigned through the task force intelligence directorate via some obscure officer who probably thought it would be funny to send the outsider a greenhorn.

Jason saw a status update flash on screen, the kid, hell he was a kid, had checked in already. Jason rolled his eyes, he didn't want to start shore leave with a new intelligence green horn riding his heels. Jason went too fill his coffee for the fourth time this morning, the almost anonymous communications chief handed him a pad, mostly just Romulan freighter traffic, and a Klingon warship stalking a Ferengi D'Kora over a cargo scam, nothing to exciting. This hiss of the doors stopped Jason's train of thought.

"I'm looking for Lieutenant Jason Elliot?"

"You found him ensign."

"I'm Alan Wilson, I was assigned here by Task Force intelligence."

"I'm fully aware, I was sent your very thin file earlier today." Jason said as he turned.

"I am surprised as you are sir." The very young ensign said.

Jason tried not to be annoyed "Only the top twenty get starbases or desks at headquarters so consider this your first field assignment."

"So I'm a field officer?" the kid said confused.

"Yes, we don't have all the fancy facilities that a starbase has or the unrecycled air that being planet side has, you get a cubical over there." Jason said pointing too the empty cubical. "I want you to go over this com intercept we just got, it's mostly a traffic intercept but I want you to do a full break down based on the Riley protocols too see if we need to forward it to the sector command or file it under routine."

Jason went back too his office coffee in hand, he tried too get back too work, he had other new crew arriving.

===Three hours later===

Jason looked up too see the new ensign in the door, "Yes ensign."

"Sir the Ferengi ship in the intercepts is on a most wanted list, should we turn it over too sector security?"

Jason sat back, "Interesting, that was the one being chased by the Klignon warship."

"Yes sir, I ran the commanders name against a registry of smugglers Star Fleet security has on a wanted list."

"Write up your full report and I'll add it too the Captains briefing, send a copy too Star base thirty six, they'll do a follow up when they can." Jason said as he grabbed his mug.

"That's it?" Alan said surprised.

"Yup, this isn't the Enterprise, Titan, or Cerritos, we don't just run head first into every situation" Jason said half truthing.

"Okay sir, I'll get on it." Alan said leaving sounding slightly defeated.

"Hey, not bad for your first shift kid, if the follow up is of value we might get too see the results." Jason said trying to encourage the young man.

"Thank you sir, I guess I was expecting more, I know not every day is a phaser fight or first contact." Alan said as he made his way back too his desk.

Jason shook his head, this kid was going to be a handful.
