Mission:
New Worlds
Location: Captain's Ready Room.
Timeline: Current.
::ON::
Finchley walked over towards the Captain's Ready Room. The CO had asked him to join him to discuss something, so seeing the doors still open, he walked through, saw the Captain at his desk, and said "You asked to see me, Sir?"
Trensu saw Finchley walk in he smiled. "Commander Kerr, have a seat," Trensu said sitting back as he motioned to one. "I know we have little time one-on-one so let me ask you this when in here or just you and I can I just call you Kerr? and do you want something to drink?" was Trensu's first two questions continuing. "We need to go over this mission to Planet Vein II and meet the Akaru. I want us to be a team and frank with one other and open. my door is always open to you. Now that I got that out. I have read your service record. it and you are outstanding. I think the only reason that Starfleet chose me is I have been alive longer? but that is my personal opinion. my plan is for the both of us to run this command and ship side by side. I know that responsibility in the end falls on me. but just know you have my full support."
"Thank you Sir" Finchley said, taking the offered seat "I'm fine, I don't need a drink thanks. Regarding it being when it's just you and I, Finchley is my first name, so by all means, if you wish to use that, feel free to do so. I've always found being open and frank is the best policy, I would not openly criticize anything you say or do when there's crew around, but in private Sir, I would like to think I could speak my mind, but not in any kind of derogatory or insubordinate way, but truthfully. If I think you're wrong about something, I'd like to be able to say so and discuss why. Thank you for your kind words on my service record, I do try my best for those I serve with. I would like to think we can work as a team as well Sir, but as you say, ultimately, the responsibility falls on you, but I'll do everything I can to back you up when it's needed. You have my full support as well Captain. So, can I ask for some details on this mission to Vein II and the purpose of meeting the Akaru?"
"Our Mission Number 1," replied Trensu. Turning activating the viewer on the wall it showed the mission parameters. "The USS Oberon is ordered to go and sure up relations with the Akaru on Vein II. It is a Class M planet. They have only developed warp technologies and are meeting the visitors from beyond the Expanse. We are to meet with the Akaru prime minister Spenn Malvor and his staff.
There is some unrest within the Akaru government and asked for the Federation's help. They have an application in to join the Federation. The Federation had put that on hold because of their two tier citizenship and slavery problem. We are to help them get past that and meet the Federation's qualifications standards. Starfleet thinks the Klingons have their hands in this too. So we should be aware they might show up. That's all I have on that so far. Starfleet said they would update us on the way there." informed Trensu. He took a breath and let it out slowly Finchley could see what was coming next weighed heavily on Trensu.
"Now Finchley, for intell. On a different note, There is intelligence from Starfleet leading to a freighter believed to have gone missing with DS3 has turned up there. We are to investigate this and report on our findings. Retrieve any Starfleet personnel we find. this is secondary to the main mission of the Akaru. That's all I have right now. I am interested in your views and thoughts on this mission." said Trensu sitting back in his chair.
"Well, Sir" Finchley began "With this being, for all intents and purposes, a diplomatic mission, I think Lieutenant Chase, our Chief Diplomatic Officer is going to be vital to the mission. I have 'some' experience in the field, my Father has been a diplomat, but Lieutenant Chase will be far more crucial to you and the Away Team when you meet with the Anksu Prime Minister. It'll be tricky, asking a potential Federation candidate to dismantle their way of life...that's going to take some delicate negotiations. As for the Klingons being involved, I can see that being a very strong possibility, their own hierarchy system is kind of similar, so they may loom to take advantage of that and make it a strong point to the Anksu to make an alliance with them. I'm waiting on Lieutenant Elliot to give me a full report on what Intelligence has on the sector, once I have it I'll sift through it and bring you the relevant information needed for you to make an informed decision. As for the DS3 freighter being on the planet, 'that' is a mystery, one I think we can investigate at the same time as the Away Team is meeting with the Anksu PM. It could be a ruse, possibly by the Klingons, to draw us into a rescue, and they attack us, at the same time, it could be the Romulans. As with everything, we need to be cautious, see what we information can gather when we arrive planet side."
"I agree with your assessment though we all have been trained in diplomatic missions. I have come from a Security background and can view things differently sometimes. Like what's a threat and wats not and dealing with it in that perspective. Lieutenant Chase will be vital in this mission. Lieutenant Elliot's report will get us I hope who could be near the Akaru system. Ambassador Destrek Has talked to me before about Klingons. Also, He has ties to the Klingon Empire. I can say he married into it. So he might also be of help with the Klingons if and when we run into them. His Wife Kal-nar, is a squadron commander. She has I think last time we talk 3 warbirds under her command. She comes from a small house but, a respected one. It's in his records. As for the freighter, I was thinking It could be a trap but wanted your assessment. But some hope still resides inside of me that it is true Finchley." replied Trensu.
"I think we're all set for the main briefing Sir" Finchley replied "Do you wish to call the Department Heads to the Conference Room so you can begin it?"
Trensu looked at the viewer "It is time to let everyone know what the mission is and get their input on it. You can call them when you are ready Finchley." suggested Trensu
