Cassi could feel what he was saying. There was passion there, buried deep. "Might be able to have a few first contacts here if we are lucky." She said her mind going to the possibilities that idea brought on. "Some poor desolate people who require our aide and limp in hoping to find a friendly face to help them on their way. Or even some proud warrior species that sees us here and gets curious and comes to explore us for a change." She smiled. "The universe has a funny way of making the strangest and most unlikely of things to happen I have found." That's when she caught it, "Ah I think I smell coffee in that direction." She said motioning to a small café a few yards away now. "We are still getting coffee right?"
"Yes, of course." Tobias answered, then added, "After you." with a sweeping motion of his right arm toward the café.
Cassi went through the door. She waited for her companion to join her before stepping up to the counter. "Large Coffee black and thick if you have it." She said. It was an acquired taste she'd picked up in the last few months. Burnt coffee and fried brain cells. So many bodies. Not nearly enough survivors. She took a deep breath and stepped aside to let Tobias order.
"Coffee, double light, double sweet." he said, giving his order to the barista.
Cassi studied the man she had looped into coffee with interest. He was a man of few words and deep thoughts it seemed. She kept finding her gaze going to the scars and his unusual eyes. Whatever had happened must have been a bit of hell from the looks of it. She knew better then most to not ask. But she still couldn't help but wonder. Or maybe she just liked looking at his face. Yeah that was part of it too. He had a very attractive face that was pleasing to her eye. It wasn't often she stopped to smell the roses. But the Coronel was a bit of an exceptional bloom. Then she let the moment pass and looked away to check on the progress of her beverage in silence.
The drinks arrived at the counter. He picked them both up and said "Find us a table?"
"Sure!" Cassi looked around and found a booth next to one of the large windows that looked out over the promenade. "Heres a nice little spot to watch the world go by for a bit." she said with a proud smile.
He took a seat and slid her coffee across to her. "So, now it is your turn. Tell me about you."
"What would you like to know?" She asked taking her drink.
"Well, let us start with what is not in your service jacket." he answered, smiling, then took a deep sip of his coffee.
"Oh the deep stuff got it. Well umm. My favorite color is Blue. I once kept a pet toad hidden from my parents for almost a year in a shoe box under my bed. His name was Fred. Like the little cartoon frog that dances and sings on those old cartoons. and yes I would hold him in my hands and try to teach him to dance and sing. I was an only child it got lonely at times so don't judge me too harshly. .. I started horseback riding when I was three and gymnastics. It kept me out of trouble. I broke my wrist playing skeeball when I was fifteen at a carnival because a clown snuck up behind me and scared me. I prefer sun rises over sun sets because I believe there is hope in the dawn. Have I bored you yet?" She asked her smile friendly and her tone playful. She was being honest. Though she wouldn't be surprised if most of it was in her service jacket. Starfleet could be very through when they wanted to be.
"Really went to the bottom of the well with that one, did you not?" He chuckled.
"Yeah well that's how friendship works isn't it?" Cassi mused taking a sip from her cup. "Your turn, spill it." she said with a smile. "Remember not in the service jacket." she added with mock seriousness.
"Well, let me think..." he started, "I was engaged for a while before I came here, but no one knew. She is an engineer on another Starbase. I also know how to play guitar, but I never let anyone hear me play, because I do not think I am very good."
"Good, very nice. you're good at this friends stuff." She said with soft laughter in her voice, "Can I ask you a question?"
"You can ask, I will not guarantee that I will answer, though."
"That's fair enough." Cassi affirmed with a nod and anther sip of her coffee. "Here it is. Try not to laugh though it is a very silly question mind you. But I have my reason for asking. As a child did you ever flood the forest during the Flotter adventures or accidently burn it down even?"
"What, or whom, it Flotter?" he asked, answering her question with one of his own.
"I think you answered that brilliantly." Was Cassandra's response. A wristband on her arm began to beep. She frowned her brows knitting together as she looked at it and read the message displayed on it. "Oh damn it all to hell." She whispered harshly as her face grew angry for a span of seconds. Then a deep resigned sigh. She looked at the kind man for whom she had been enjoying coffee with and gave an apologetic smile. "My apologies. I am going to have to go attend to a few things. It was really nice getting to know you. We should do it again some time." She was saying as she got to her feet she threw back the rest of her coffee. She was going to need it to keep from horse whipping Yani and Kai. And in the air ventilation none the less. She was going to PT them until they needed life support. They should count their lucky stars that Rhys had contacted her first and not the Major.
"It would be my please. Good day, Lieutenant."
