Homesick

Mission:
The Forgotten Outpost
Location: Sickbay
The reports said Lyra was awake. T'val was a bit overwhelmed by those words.
She didn't waste anytime, though. Rushing through sickbay only pausing long enough to explain why she was here in as vague an answer as possible, T'val stepped into her sectioned off room, and frowned.
Lyra was asleep again.
T'val would have sworn if she wasn't afraid nurses would overhear.
She placed a hand next to Lyra's and looked down. "You probably do not need to hear this, but you did it." T'val said, quietly. "There is a marine artificer helping out. They reminder me a bit of-"
T'val froze, as Lyra's hand fell into hers.
"-Kathleen." T'val finished.
A flash of Lyra working with Lorrietta appeared in T'val's mind.
"Daniels says hi. He-" T'val began.
T'val's own recent memory replayed through her mind.
Yesterday
"Because you couldn't tell her the simple unspoken truth?" Daniels asked.
"When it comes to Lyra Bogdonovich, there is nothing simple about anything unspoken." T'val shook her head. "She will be pleased that you came by."
Now
T'val blinked. "You weren't supposed to-"
It isn't complicated. Just unspoken. Lyra's voice echoed in her mind.
"What-?" T'val blinked, and looked up, sharply.
Another memory flashed through T'val's mind.
A year ago, Starfleet medical
Lyra awoke, and her head hurt. She didn't understand why she could understand Vulcan, nevermind why she was thinking in it. She took a breath, and sat up straight.
"What happened?" She asked the doctor watching over her.
"Your friend, here." The doctor didn't sound impressed. "She apparently heard you talking to her while she was in her healing coma. She also overheard us saying you were spiraling and your mind was shutting down after hearing about your friend T'yuna passing "
"And?" Lyra asked.
"And, against any sane aspect of Vulcan training, she opted to perform a mind meld with you while you were falling. I was expecting to find you entirely gone. There was paperwork to send you to a long term care facility." The doctor paused. "She said... You'd understand once your brain acclimatized."
Lyra looked towards the sleeping Vulcan.
I grant you my memories, that you might order your mind. In return I take what has kept you going after your mind was taken from you. An unfamiliar woman's voice whispered in her mind.
Lyra blinked. This woman could have killed herself. Lyra was fully aware of how hazardous her own mind was to others. She now has a more detailed description of it, written in someone else's thoughts, which made her even more worried.
"Anyway, I don't know what the hell happened in your mind or hers, but your brain scans are returning to what passes for normal, and the signs of stress in her body have reduced to almost zero." The doctor laughed. "She's been at critical mental distress levels for 15 years."
He shook his head. "You two should get some rest. We've got a lot of tests in the morning."
Lyra nodded. "Tired."
"Understandably. Mind melds aren't for the weak of will. It's probably overwhelming. I'm surprised you were awake this long."
The lights went dark.
Lyra wrapped her blankets around her, but her mind wouldn't calm down.
She frowned, and turned to the sleeping Vulcan.
Suddenly, the woman felt safe and welcoming.
Lyra quietly got off her bio-bed, and cuddled next to the woman in silence.
I hear you, Lyra Walsh. The woman's voice echoed in her mind.
Thank you. Lyra thought back. T'val of Vulcan.
She closed her eyes, and slept peacefully for the first time since Sirgei had gone.
Now
T'val blinked, shocked by a memory she barely had, herself.
"I have no words." T'val said, quietly. "I didn't realize-"
That is because you didn't ask. Stooopid. Lyra replied. You don't need words.
T'val ran a hand along Lyra's face, and shook her head.
Lyra's eyes opened.
"Hey." Lyra said, weakly.
"Hello." T'val replied.
"Tired." Lyra said, quietly.
"I should expect so. Your body is still healing." T'val gave her a bemused look. "I am surprised you are awake."
"Can you stay?" Lyra whispered.
"You need not ask." T'val replied, settling down next to her.
Thank you.
You owe me no thanks.
