Tobias was in his office, enjoying a rare moment of quiet and a steaming mug of coffee when the chime rang.
"Come." he answered simply, and then waited for the new arrival to enter the office.
Jordan stepped into the office, after having a bit of a hard time navigating the station. She set her bag at her feet as she set to report in. "Lieutenant Chase, sir," she greeted.
"Excellent timing Lieutenant. Were you briefed on the peace conference that will be beginning tomorrow?"
Jordan's eyes widened a fraction. "My apologies, sir, but no I haven't. My assignment here was last minute. I previously was due to be assigned to a ship, however I only got word of the change with enough time to catch a shuttle to be able to arrive today," she informed. "Peace conference? Who is involved?"
In a very tired voice, showing all the ear marks of a lot of stress, Tobias answered, "the Talgarians and the Korolin."
She nodded, thinking about the races. Her knowledge was slim and she would be doing a lot of homework that night. "I'll begin reading up on both of them as soon as I get in my office to prepare then."
"Nothing quite like hitting the ground running, eh? I am shocked they sent you out here without telling you what they were dropping you in the middle of. Security has already had their hands full with a pair of skirmishes on the Promenade last night."
"It's probably the escalation that caused the change. I was being prepared to be assigned to one of the outlying colonies when they came with orders that I needed to get my things and head out on the next transport," Jordan admitted. "If I could be told where my office is, I can get started on reading up on these people to better prepare myself for tomorrow."
Tobias let the new diplomat know where their office was, and then took a drink from the mug on his desk. "Let me know if there is anything you need from me, other than my hosting duties."
Jordan gave a tight smile. "I can get started on learning about tomorrow's summit as soon as possible. All I need is a replicator for coffee and my desk and I'll be good to go," she shrugged.
"Those are both standard equipment, so you should be in good shape." he teased.
She blinked at him for a moment before letting her eyes grow large and she clapped. "You mean I don't have to sit in the corner to do my work anymore?!"
"You still might. I never said anything about a chair." he answered, playing along.
"But you admitted to having a desk," she pointed out. "Desk comes with a computer console - standard equipment. Just need to get started on my cramming on the people for tomorrow so I know what we are in for."
"Well, do not let me keep you then." he said with a smile. "I am sure you have a lot of reading to do."
The small smile that had been on her face fell to a scowl as she dipped to pick up her bag. "That would be an understatement, Sir. May I be excused?"
"Yes, your are dismissed."
