The Committee sat towards the back of the room the sunshine of San Francisco Bay hard into the double panel windows. The sun was in Alaina’s eyes making them water and itch under her lashes. Of course most court martial were conducted under such circumstances in order to disarm the subject.

Admiral Peters sat in his chair surrounded by Admiral Acitian and Captain Trensu Top brass, Aliana thought. She stood to attention arms locked behind her back, legs slightly apart….waiting. She shot a glance at Trensu hoping for some sign of recognition, a slight smile of kindness but he just looked disgusted.

Her court appointed defender stood beside her holding the PaDD completing her defense. Peter’s spoke.

“Doctor Trywhitt-Duffy please tell the court what happened in the three hours prior to the deaths of Executive Officer Niali Duval and Lieutenant 2XO Steven Edgeware?”

Aliana began to sweat. “I was on duty in sickbay when I felt what seemed like several explosions. I was then informed by Niali..I mean Lieutenant Commander Duval that the ship had been boarded by Klingons and I was to secure sickbay. She was sending a security team to help.” Alaina felt sick and she wobbled slightly.

Trensu looked at her. “Surely the doctor can sit down to give her evidence?” He said.

Peters nodded and Alina thankfully sat and sipped a glass of water that had been slipped onto her table.

The prosecutor stood and looked at her. “Lieutenant Commander can you explain when you left your Captain to die after he had been shot by the Klingons?” He smiled nastily. “Surely your Captain's life was more important than treating small wounds on the regular crew?”

The questions came thick and fast and Alaina answered them to the best of her ability. “There was another doctor with the Captain at the time. I was just about to go over when…when I was told he had died. I tried to resuscitate him but his wounds were too much.”

Peter’s stood and walked up to her looking down on her. “Fact is Alaina you let him die, your dereliction of duty is very clear. I ask the court to consider all the evidence and make a determination.”

Alaina went cold as she waited. Someone brought her a hot drink which she let go cold as she went over and over the time in her mind. She looked up as the tribunal returned.

“Please stand Lieutenant Commander.” Alaina stood certain, waiting, wishing it to be over now.

Lieutenant Commander Alaina Trywhitt-Duffy. You have been found negligent in your duty in the care of your Captain in the event of the Klingon incursion on your ship. Because of your neglect your Captain died. We can only provide you with the severest penalty. You are to be stripped of your rank and Starfleet. You will be remanded to the penal colony on Aurora Regla for a period of twenty years.”

She screamed as she saw black and fell over fainting. The last thing she remembered was the security guards picking her up.
