Ch'Kaohrher's Issue

Posted on Sunday May 29th, 2022 @ 10:18pm by Lieutenant Finchley Kerr & Lieutenant Steven Edgeware & Lieutenant JG Brolga

Mission: EPISODE 1: SHAKEDOWN
Location: USS Oberon & USS Sun Runner
Timeline: MD6 0800 hrs

'... but the situation is entirely clear, Lieutenant Sakaan,' Kerr replied, hand waving in the air as he rounded the corner to Transporter Room One. 'The Sun Runner is experiencing some neutrino leaks inside their cargo bay.' Seeing Sakaan about to speak again, he cut across her firmly. 'This is a high priority - and I'm aware of the protocols. Miller will be in command until I get back.'

Stepping through to the Transporter Room, Kerr nodded in satisfaction at the assembled officer, 'Lieutenant Brolga, Doctor Edgeware, a pleasure to see you. I take it you're fully briefed on the situation? The Sun Runner has a sealed cargo bay with a neutrino leak. Mister Brolga, as the Chief Engineer, I want you to take that sealed cargo bay apart and determine what exactly is the cause of the neutrino leak and whether it can be stopped. Doctor Edgeware, you're going to be taking a look at the crew for any sign of ill-health related to the leak.'

Steven gave Kerr a nod. But he was uneasy. If the crew were sick due to the cargo and its problems. They were going to be understandably annoyed. They could take this out on the first person they saw. Him.

“Understood. If we do find something do we treat them there or over here on the Oberon?” Steven asked.

'Use your discretion, Doctor. The Oberon has one of the most up-do-date Sickbays in the fleet,' Kerr shrugged, 'if it must be utilized, then feel free.' He paused for a moment, then added, 'we can't stay in this position too long, so work as quickly as you can to return any crew that needs treatment.'

“ Understood,” Steven said. Until he started to treat the crew. He could not say if they would need to be sent to the Oberon or stay on the Sun Runner.

"Yes, sir." Brolga gave a formal nod. The Klingon had to wonder if the neutrino leak could cause him or any of Oberon's engineers any health issues, but, well, if there would be a problem the doctor probably would have mentioned it beforehand. Besides - he was a Klingon. His body was built for charging headfirst into stupid situations.

'Remember to observe standard safety protocols for hazardous environments for both teams,' Kerr remarked to both officers, 'no sense in getting our people sick as well.'

On the USS Sun Runner, they were preparing for the officers of the Oberon. Captain Ch'kaohrer his Executive Officer a Bajoran, Getku Heentirn, Chief of Security an Orion, Nainna, Chief of Engineering and a rather old and frustrated Klingon, yecl'osh Krerv. Standing in the transporter room the XO and Engineering Chief looked at Captain Ch'kaohrer "So what's this Captain Kerr like?" asked Heentirn.

Captain Ch'kaohrer thought "He is a man that does not speak a whole lot mostly preferring to lead with his actions. He does put his hands behind his back at times more than normal not sure why " answered Captain Ch'kaohrer.

'Oberon to Sun Runner, Commander Kerr speaking. Our team is ready to beam over when you are,' Kerr tone was clipped and precise, focused on the mission.

Captain Ch'kaohrer looked over to the chief petty officer at the transporter controls "Roger, Captian Kerr, energizing now." Captain Ch'kaohrer gave the chief a nod. The room filled with light as the pads were activated streeks of light swirled and flashed as the USS Oberon personnel appeared.

"Welcome to the Sunrunner I am Captain Rath Ch'kaohrer," He said with his officers behind him.

Steven noticed straight away that the Ch’kaohrer looked a little pale. He knew how Starship Captains the galaxy over. Did not like their health issues broadcasted in public.

“ Captain Ch’kaohrer would it be alright with you. If I could see you in private sir?” Steven asked

"No problem" Captain Ch’kaohrer replied walking to one side away from the others. "What can I help you with, Lieutenant Edgeware"

Making sure no one could see or hear him as Steven spoke.

“How are you feeling sir. Only your coloring seems a lot paler than it should be. I know how important it is for a Captain to maintain his image of well-being. So that’s why I asked to see you in private.”

"treat the crew first Doctor. I think it is the Neutrino leak possibly. Only senior officers know I have not told the crew yet. So if you could not say anything about it yet" asked Captain Ch’kaohrer.

Steven could understand the Captain putting his crew first. But Edgware could not just leave it for now. By the time the crew was sorted. It could be too late to help Ch’kaohrer. Making sure no one saw him he pressed a hypo against the Captain's neck.

“ That should help until we get your crew sorted out. Steven said

"I thank you, now just try to save my crew," replied Ch’kaohrer. The Captain turned to the others "Lieutenant Brolga could you go with Mr. Krerv my chief engineer to look at the problem. I will be there shortly," said Captain Ch’kaohrer.

"Yes, sir." Brolga nodded. The engineer stood up and went to follow Mr. Krerv, glancing back at his own crewmates. Only senior officers know. As much as Brolga could understand not wanting to panic people, he wasn't sure about the... the honor of keeping most of your own crew in the dark. Still. Brolga followed orders. He wasn't about to say anything.

walking beside Lieutenant Brolga. Krerv was much bigger than Brolga Krerv had gray running throw his beard and hair and a few scars could be seen on his face and arms. speaking in Klingon as they walked to the turbolift at the end of the corridor. "This your first assignment Lieutenant?" asked Mr. Krerv

Brolga gave just the smallest chuckle. "I wouldn't be running Oberon's engineering department if it were my first assignment. I've spent half my life as part of the fleet." Although Brolga was only in his twenties, such was true; Klingons matured quickly.

"do you find it frustrating dealing with the Star Fleet sometimes? They can be efficient and inefficient at the same time" commented Krerv.

looking at Lieutenant Edgeware Captain Ch’kaohrer looked around "where would you like to set up? sickbay is open for you to use." suggested Captain Ch’kaohrer.

Steven gave a nod.

“ Then that is probably the best place please.” He said then on a whisper he continued.” That injection I gave you is good for 24 hours. After that insist you come and get treatment, sir.” Steven warned.

"Yes, Doctor," replied Captain Ch’kaohrer. "if you fallow me this way I will take you to sickbay." Said Captain Ch’kaohrer.

'And the cargo bay?' Kerr asked politely.

Steven nodded.

“ If you are going to the cargo bay. Could I tag along? I have a feeling my services may be needed there.” He said

Captain Ch’kaohrer turned to Kerr, "after I get the doctor taken care of I will be right there, Captain Kerr." said Captain Ch’kaohrer

Steven shook his head at them.

“ If it’s all the same. I would rather follow you, people, to the cargo bay sir” Steven said a bit louder.

'Doctor Edgeware can accompany us to the Cargo Bay after he's done in the Sickbay,' Kerr asserted gently.

Steven nodded.

“ Of course. Captain Ch’kaohrer if you would lead the way to sickbay. We can tend to your crew as quickly as possible.” He said

"Thank you, Doctor. Please this way as he leads him down the corridor. "Captain Kerr I will be there shortly."

Steven entered sickbay and shook his head. He had not seen equipment this old since he had been a cadet. Visiting the Starfleet Museum. He rolled up his sleeves.

“ Ok. Who's first?” He asked

The crewmembers start to line up in the room and going out of the door most were looking a little sick and waited patiently.
They got their Hypo shot stopped by the nurse for the final check then they left as fast as they came.

Captain Ch’kaohrer seeing everything was in order left for the cargo bay.

It was just a couple of minutes be for he arrived. He saw Captain Kerr and a few others looking at the entrance of the bay. "Captain Kerr, what do you think I have additional shielding up but it's just slowing down the radiation not stopping it whatever is in it is big and dangerous." Captain Ch’kaohrer paused looking around again.

"I think it is some type of Power Source maybe a ship type. and I am sure Starfleet intelligence has its hands in this. They can shield the room but not the radiation. Our analyses show it's a Neutrino leak and a bad one. It might even be Romulan. But our sensors are not that great" Handing Captain Kerr a PADD with all of the analyses on it.

"So what is next Captain Kerr?' asked Captain Ch’kaohrer.

Finchley took the offered PADD, looked it over, then placed his hands, one with the PADD still in it, behind his back. Tapping his COMM badge he said, "Brolga, get a team of yours over here pronto, tell them to bring a Neutrino shield with them, plus radiation suits, from now on, nobody goes near that fucker till we determine it's safe. Once they've put it in place and have explained how it works to the Sun Runner crew, get them and yourself back to the Oberon, have you got that?" he finished off gruffly. He was annoyed at what had happened, and now to many people were at risk.

"Yes, sir," Brolga responded with a neutral obedient tone that was nonetheless turned a bit gruff by his own Klingon accent.

Turning back to Ch'kaohrer he said, "If you knew it was Neutrino leak, why did you let your crew near it?"

Ch'kaohrer thought for a moment "the problem was not discovered until later. it started to leak after we left the port it took time for it to leak or they wanted it that way." replied Captain Ch’kaohrer.

"This...they you just mentioned, something tells me that there's more to this than them wanting a leak, and why a radiation leak, there's other ways to kill a crew and leave no trace, yet they didn't use them. The leak will leave clues..."

It wasn't his investigation anymore he decided, this wasn't what him and the Oberon crew were meant to be doing, they were meant to be 'out there', looking into the Shackleton Expanse situation.

"Your turning the Sun Runner around, heading back to port, this is to much danger for your crew and mine," Finchley said "Once you're back, hand over all your logs to the investigation team Starfleet will no doubt assign and you can be sure they'll find out what happened" he finished.

Tapping his COMM badge he said "Kerr to Edgeware, have you finished giving the crew their hypo's, if so, get yourself back to me so we can wrap this up”

Steven wiped his brow.

“ The task is finished Commander. I am on my way back now.” He said.

Packing up his things and he walked back to the transporter room.

Captain Ch’kaohrer gave a nod to Kerr "yes sir I will also try to keep personal off this deck to reduce the exposure. as soon as you and your team leave the Sun Runner I will be on my way back." replied Captain Ch’kaohrer.

Finchley nodded and said "I wish you and your crew a safe return journey to port Captain, myself and my crew will take our leave of you and return to the Oberon now" he finished, nodding his farewell. He turned and made his way back to the transporter room where Steven was already waiting for him.

"Steven, when we get back, I want you to begin regular checkups of all the Oberon crew who have been over here, myself included, I don't want anyone to get sick because of what's been discovered and us having to clean up the mess it's caused."

Tag Steven

Captain Ch’kaohrer walked onto the bridge if the Sun Runner. "Has the crew of the Oberon left the ship" asked Captain Ch'kaohrer to his XO.

The Ox smiled looking at a small screen in his chair. "Yes, sir" answered the XO.

"OK, helm, plot a course back to the star back at the best possible speed. let us get this poison off our ship and find out who did this to us.

"Captian, course set in ready for warp." said the officer at the helm.

"Signal the Oberon and let them know we are departing. and safe travels to them," ordered Captain Ch’kaohrer.

"Sir they have acknowledged and bid us safe travels as well." said the XO.

"Engage!" ordered Captain Ch’kaohrer. "keep an eye on everyone if you can. I will be in my ready room, XO has the bridge." said Captain Ch’kaohrer as he walks off the bridge.
