A little R&R

Mission: Shore Leave
Location: Sickbay,Captains ready room and holodeck

[ON]

-Sickbay-

Steven gave a sigh. He needed a break. The recent mission had been a busy one. Edgeware had never seen sickbay so busy. The attackers had been quite vicious. But the butcher's bill had been low.

Standing he rubbed his eyes. It was then he noticed the Captain's biobed was empty.

“ Where is the Captain?” He asked

“ He left,” Penny said

“ Who said he was fit to leave?” Steven asked

“ I I I “ She stammered

“ Are you now a cyclops? Oh, my old aunt Meg O’Hare….”Steven tapped a Padd.

Then he left sickbay for the Captain's ready room. Where after pressing the door chime. He waited to be told to enter.

- Captains ready room-

He had been buried by work being out for so long did not help with getting all the reports out. Trensu had stacks of Padds. Trensu was dealing with transfers, reassignments, legal reports, and others. Trensu thought that Starfleet had it in for him, it was death buy reports.

Trensu's head started to hurt some. he sat back in his chair and took a sip of his tea. when the door chimed. "Enter said trensu in a loud voice."

Steven walked in and immediately moved toward the Captain. He pointed a medical tricorder at the Captain. Shaking his head he pressed a hypo against his arm.

“Sorry to barge in like this sir. But your treatment was not finished. That should help stabilize your blood pressure. The headache should disperse. Now let’s have a quick look at our handy work.” Steven ran a probe over Trensu’s head and nodded.” Yes. Excellent. Your head injury has healed just fine.”

The Captain smiled at Steven. "You don't need to fuss over me. I am sure there are others worse off than me. I have had more threatening injuries. in the past... well in my life. But thanks, Doctor," said Trensu. He looked at a few Padds and stopped at one and Paused.

"Lieutenant Steven Edgeware, you know it shows here you put in for the science department as your first choice but you were transferred to medical. Do you want to say in that position?" asked Trensu as a sat back picked up his tea and sipped it.

Steven took a seat.

“ Well, Captain. I think it’s time for a change. For once it would be nice to study a living creature. Rather than putting it back together again. So if it is still open then yes I would like to go over to science please.”Steven said

Trensu was quiet for a moment as Steven was ruining his test. Trensu looked at a Padd. "Ok, I will transfer you to Science as Chief of Science. But you must give me three recommendations of who can run sickbay until we get someone new.

“ Mc Taggard or Niali would be ideal. Then again this ship is fitted with the latest EMH. Technology has advanced now. They can be left running a lot longer without coherent degradation. Saying that I hear the Oberon has some rather interesting programs. In my last act as Chief Medical Officer. I prescript a visit to one for yourself.” Steven said

"Well Lieutenant Commander is out of the question she is now XO so Mc Taggard will do for now. Corendnat with Mc Taggard get the Sickbay striated out then I will let you move positions. Just so you know if we need a backup doctor in an emergency just know you might get called on." informed Trensu. "Do you want something to drink?" asked the Captain.

“ Yes. Please. You know what Captain? With the Oberon docked. Why don’t we visit the holodeck? I have a good sailing program or a walk through the forests of Ireland. It would help prepare you for shore leave. Plus we could have a few snifters of some fine Irish Whiskey. Purely medicinal of course sir.” Steven suggested.

The captain got up and walked to the replicator and picked up the drink that was ordered and gave it to Steven. Then walked to his seat and sat picking up another PADD.

Looking at Steven Trensu's thinks about the request. "I have some time today remember the XO planning a trip planet side. I think everyone leaves tomorrow," replied Trensu. He took a sip of this tea. pick up another Padd "I expect a report from you when you take over Science." informed Trensu.

Edgeware nodded.” Ah yes. I am going with them. I’ll have that report done for you. But for the present shall we head to the holodeck?” Steven asked.

Trensu was looking up at Steven. "Now?" Trensu replied surprised putting down the Padd in his hand. "You don't waste any time, do you?" commented Trensu standing. OK let's go I need a break anyways." said trensu walking from behind his desk. Trensu was wondering what he was getting himself into.

Edgeware smiled.” As your former Doctor it is very important and with your type of head wound, to take things very easy. The headaches won’t ease unless your body has time to get used to being active again. So plenty of R&R is extremely important. Plus after today I can’t order you to rest anymore.”

Trensu gave a grin. "But you can always suggest it to me. I do have the habit of pushing myself too much. One of the things they yell at me about at the academy. It was odd going through that when I use to teach that 50+ years ago. I still have things to learn this is going to be a good thing for me being Captain. I even turned down an academy instructor's position to be here. That did not go well over with the command. I would do the same thing if I had to do it again." explained Trensu.

“ Are yes. You can’t beat the thrill of that feeling. When you are just about to head out on a new mission. Looking out at that view screen. Then the ship's warp engines kick it and that star field rushes towards you. That’s a feeling you miss after a while of being stuck in one place. That’s something I could never make my mother see.” Steven replied

" It is good that you knew our mother and could talk that out with her. not not only the ship but the crew that makes it rewarding. That's what gives the ship life, is the crew. That's something you should not forget. I would not be Captain if the crew was not here and the ship." said Trensu walking to the door.

-Holodeck-

They headed towards the holodeck. Once there Steven looked at the program menu.

“ So sir. What do you fancy? A yacht around the coast or a nice hike through some Irish countryside. There’s even a Scottish Highland. But if McTaggard has had anything to do with it. I shudder to think what it contains” Steven said.

Trensu pondered the choices by looking at the list. "Scottish Highland, believe it or not, never been there but I was only on earth for about 6 Years. Most of it at the Acadamy. I have heard of it, and have only seen it on screen." replied Trensu.

Thinking about what this walk was about. Did Steven really think that Trensu needed a brake that bad? Trensu knew that he probably worked too much. Well, this is going to be something new for Trensu. He did not normally really socialize with the crew. But now and then was a good thing.

"Ensign McTaggard, is she going to join us?" asked Trensu.

Steven shook his head.

“ To tell the truth she worries me. One minute she’s calm then the next like a demented banshee. No, I heard there was a crisis concerning that biting machine. She calls a dog. I know better still there is an Irish coastal program we could try. Who knows what McTaggard has programmed into the Scottish one.” Steven said


Trensu thought about what Steven had said about McTaggard. " Irish coastal program will work 4 years on earth never went there. I have heard good things though about it," said trensu looking at the holodeck controls. " As for Ensign McTaggard, I will see what's going on I can't have someone acting like that. That could be an instability of some kind. I will have the Executive Officer or I talk to her off the record or whatever the Executive Officer thinks is right." Trensu said with some concern in his tone.

Steven nodded. It was for the best. If say on an away team Penny panicked like that. Someone’s life could be at risk.

“ This program is actually based on my hometown on Earth. Ballybrack Southern Ireland. It’s not as windy as people think considering how volatile the Irish Sea can be. Plus some of the local characters have been removed. Including my mother of course. The hills have a good gradient and the weather is always not too wet. We rarely get drizzle which can soak through. No a good shower of rain or two. Now that’s a tonic. Especially after it’s stopped. The smell of wet grass is a good nasal passage clearer.” Steven said

"This is a wonderful place Steven," commanded Trensu. He was always amazed at how real the holodeck was. All the smells, everything you could feel even the sun on your face are all so real. Trensu needed this more than he thought this break was like a dream for him. He was a peace something that he seldom feels.
