The hunt for DS3.

Mission: The Lonely
Location: Starbase 364: Edge of Shackleton Exspanse.
Timeline: After Trip to Trill.

[ ON ]

-Starbase 364-

It had been noted down in history as Starfleet's greatest tragedy since the Dominion War.The unexplained sudden disappearance of Deep Space Three.

Operation DS3. The code name for the investigation into discovering what had happened. Had as yet not been fruitful. After interviews with the survivors. Most of whom now served on the USS Oberon.Except the stations CO who retired from the fleet. They were still no nearer finding the station. It was decided to concentrate the search on the Shackleton Expanse more closely. Due to the behavior of the Klingons.

The Klingons basically denied all knowledge of any embassy or personnel stationed on Deep Space Three. However Starfleet security sources had heard rumors of possible Tal Shiar activities. On their borders facing the Expanse.

Had Deep Space Three been caught up in some Klingon fueled Romulan conspiracy? Becoming collateral damage?

The decision was made to send a series of probes into the Shackleton Expanse. Their primary program was to search for DS3. But a secondary program was also put in. Look for any evidence of Romulan activity.

So when news one of the probes sent into the Shackleton expanse. Had suddenly stopped working .Starfleet became concerned. Had it discovered something the Romulans wanted hidden?

The probe was discovered floating just outside the Expanse.Completely drained of all energy. It was towed back to Starbase 364.

The head of Operation DS3 was having her daily cup of morning tea with the Starbase Commander.When a rather over excited Lieutenant contacted her.

=/\= Calm down Collins and repeat that. =/\= She said

=/\= Admiral Green we have found DS3!=/\=

-Conference room Starbase 364-

With a room filled with top brass Lieutenant Collins stood and gave her report.

“ Before the probe lost power.It picked up a distress signal that we have checked and verified. It is definitely Deep Space Three.” She said

“ Do we know why it lost power?” An Admiral asked.

“ Not as yet. But we don’t think the Romulans did this.” Collins said

“Why?” The Admiral asked

“ They would have damaged it so we could not retrieve any information.” Admiral Green said.

“ So who do we send to investigate?” He asked

“ Well. There is only one vessel and crew that we should send. Plus they are in the area. The USS Oberon.” Green said

All around the table heads nodded. Green then reached over and pressed a button.

“ Communications. Get me the USS Oberon immediately.” She said
