Prowling Engineering

Posted on Sunday November 22nd, 2020 @ 11:23pm by Ensign T'val & Captain C'Rell

Mission: The Forgotten Outpost
Location: Main Engineering

C'Rell stalked from section to section of the station learning his way and smells. His mind wandered as he did too. He caught a sudden scent and his mind focused on his surroundings. He had found his way into the Engineering section. He looked out over the heads of the Department.

T'val caught the man out of the corner of her eye, and approached him quickly. "Captain. How may I be of assistance?" T'val asked, with a raised eyebrow. This was the second marine officer in her department during her chief's injury, and her curiousity was now very high.

C'Rell looked down at the Vulcan before him. "I am familiarizing myself with the station. I am the new marine Executive Officer and will be assisting Security in its duties. I am name is C'Rell." He offered out a large fur covered hand.

"I do not shake." T'val gave the captain a frown. "I do believe Vulcan distaste for physical contact is covered by basic training. I share my mind with another as it is." She paused. "I'm not aware of anything on this station not available in schematics so I reiterate, as we are busy, how may I assist you so that I may get back to my duties?"

C'Rell lowered his hand and looked around again. "Don't let me stop you from your work. I am, as I said, familiarizing myself with the station. I believe there is no better way than to walk the entire thing. Plus by walking, I learn the scents of those that are here." He offered the Vulcan a toothy grin.

"That's fine." T'val paused. "However, we are in the midst of doing very delicate work, while also evaluating the entire station for extra leftovers after a borg attack, so I would greatly appreciate it, and by greatly appreciate it, I mean that as an order as the acting chief of this department, if you were to not get in my, or my staff's way, unless you want to deal with formal complaints being filed with the base commander."

C'Rell nodded and turned. He'd come back later, maybe on the next rotation. He walked out of engineering.

T'val blinked. "That-" She frowned, and raised an eyebrow. "How... illogical."

S'vai sighed and shook his head. "T'val, I swear, you are part Klingon." He hissed. "Captain, if you have a moment, it may be beneficial to have a guide to ensure you aren't impeding current work."

C'Rell stopped just outside and turned, his large frame taking up the doorway. He stepped back in and nimbly maneuvered the space to reach the Andorian. "That is more agreeable than during ordered away by a flat toothed plant eater." He growled out.

T'val opened her mouth and S'vai shot her a warning look. "Setting aside cultural differences, you both have valid points." S'vai glared at T'val. "Logically, assisting the Captain with familiarizing himself with this area of the station will assist him in possibly saving our lives in the future, and just as logically, having someone who isn't currently busy as the current tasks are outside their specialities make sure he doesn't interfere means that both your duties, and the Captain's aren't interfered with."

T'val narrowed her eyes, but simply nodded, and turned away. "Stooopid." She muttered to herself.

S'vai's antennae twitched. He didn't respond but he could have sworn that was his actual section chief, not acting one. He shook his head. "Forgive her. She's a bit... Eccentric and stressed at the moment." S'vai addressed the Captain.

C'Rell stared after the retreating Vulcan then turned his attention back to the Andorian. "If we were to have intruders, what is the first thing you all do down here in Engineering?" He asked keeping himself against a bulkhead out of the main flow or Engineers.

"There is an emergency response plan." S'vai noted. "There are secure areas that are hard to access. There are also combat ready officers who have emergency response kits available." S'vai paused. "That should be available to your staff, including current weapon certifications. According to the Emergency Response plan, we-" S'vai paused, to check a nearby console, and gestured to it. "-secure the Engineering department from outside access, and non-essential personnel are escorted back to their quarters for lockdown procedures by officers pre-assigned to these duties."

C'Rell nodded as he listened. "May I see the secure areas and defensive positions please?" He figured he would look and see it there could be improvements made. Better fix it now than need it later and not have it. His turquoise eyes shot to the Andorian's antennae every time it twitched or moved.

"Absolutely." S'vai nodded. "There are 19 stronghold points designed to be harder to brief. Two are accessible from this room."

C'Rell waved his large hand, motioning for S'vai to precede him. "Lead the way please."

S'vai nodded, and led him up to the upper level. "This is a storage locker that doubles as a secure stronghold. Specific people have access to the weapons lockers." S'vai gestured. "I do. Ensign T'val and Lieutenant Bogdonovich do not." He took a moment. "There are also fingerprint coded access to the Jefferies tube systems to allow engineering staff trapped in here to escape combat scenarios that way. The other one is just down the hall, and it's an got the power flow management systems contained within the room."

C'Rell followed and listened closely. His keen eyes taking in every detail of the area. "Is there any other offensive or defensive positions that you can show me? I want a thorough defense inspection."

S'vai nodded. "Outside of main engineering, there are 17 others close to, or within other critical engineering areas of the ship, including by the main communications bay on deck 1. That one is presently not open for touring, as it's under a great deal of repairs after an incident."

"Very well. If any of the engineers are interested in improving their combat skills whether it be weapon or hand to hand, they are welcome to let me know and I can include them in out training exercises." C'Rell said with a toothy grin.

S'vai smiled in turn. "I think I can find a few who might be interested in such an offer." His antennae twitched. "Though I can almost guarantee the section chief will not be on the list."

C'Rell chuckled and looked around, his nose twitched as he smelled for the Vulcan. "Aye, he might get hurt." He chuckled again.

"She." S'vai clarified. "Both the acting and actual department heads. Sometimes it's hard to figure out which is the more mad of the two."

"Plant eaters all look the same to me." C'Rell said with a laugh. "Anyway, thank you for your assistance today. I greatly appreciate it." He held a large black furred hand to the Andorian.

"I imagine they say the same thing about furry creatures." S'vai retorted, idly. "Best be careful about that. Sometimes they get snippy."

C'Rell laughed and clapped the smaller Andorian heavily on the back. "I will take my leave now, let you get back to work." He smiled as he turned to walk away.

S'vai watched the Kzinti leave, and shook his head. Some things never changed, it would seem, and Kzinti and Vulcans just don't mix.
