Mission: The Forgotten Outpost
Timeline: After: Do hikkies and thing a mah bobs

They stepped into the room in question and Yani took a look around.

The administration offices were a hubbub of engineers trying to recover the station from Borg devices. T'val gestured around. "We're getting it down slowly."

Yani took it all in and shook her head, "Are you trying to salvage them at all?" She asked as she finished setting you her power cell and wire.

"What is safe to salvage? Of course." T'val nodded. "Lyra has restricted R&D credentials with the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, and the rest goes to the actual SCE." T'val paused. "You probably should not inquiry as to how I know which is safe for Lyra to investigate, and which should go back to more secure research facilities."

"Hear no evil see no evil." Yani said as she began to examine the areas effected carefully.

"Some would call it evil. Others, less so." T'val took a moment. "Parts of it are classified. Others are just... Difficult to explain."

"Thats why I stick to Jello. Its simple and easy to understand." Yani said spraying one of the devices she sat the magnet down in the middle of the spray. The nanites flocked to it in an odd almost hungry way. Then when the green fluid was nearly grey she reached out and touched the wire shed prepared to the power cell to it and there was a almost echo Zzzzzzzttttpfft. that was reminiscent to a old terrain bug zapper. there was a puff of smoke and the smell of ozone and burnt sugar. "Might be able to save a few." She scraped the section off and examined the station for any further contamination in that area.

"Do not worry about that." T'val shook her head. "We just want the area safe again. If we can salvage anything, that is above and beyond, however we are more concerned with maintaining the safety and integrity of this base."

Yani moved to anther area and repeated the process. It always amazed her how the little critters reacted. She had use to play with them with Fred and Joanna from the science department on the USS Cutter. They had wrote many reports on the phenomenon but no one would believe them. Believing it to be some prank or something. It baffled Yani that at least one of those old monkeys hadn't at least tried to test it out of some morbid curiosity or just bored humor. Then again Nanites were not exactly readily accessible to most either. Meh! no need to wrap our head around it. If it works it works and the little buggers shut down so fast they had no time to adapt to the sudden voltage. Simple and effective. Yani saw it like killing mold with peroxide back in the old days. Squirt, squirt, Zap! scrape scrape scrape. She worked into a rhythm.

T'val took to mimicking Yani's actions, mildly entertained that it was actually working. "This is... impressive." She noted, watching the reaction before getting fried. "You really were the person for this job."

"Yeah, I have my moments. I cant take credit for it though. That goes to the late Doctor Fredrik Deltalini he and his wife Joanna, Joe to those privileged enough to be her friend they stumbled upon it by accident in the lab of the USS Cutter. I tell you what I had never seen a man more excited over Jell-O of all the things in the universe would prove so irresistible to a Borg programed nanite." She chuckled a little still finding it utterly humorous. "Their findings where rejected though. Said to be rubbish and was accompanied with a letter of reprimand about trying to publish such garbage. They umm.. they became a laughing stalk in their respected community. The only happy ending to the story is they died before they ever found out about that fall out." Yani said as she worked rhythmically. It was like watching the little white bubbles cleaning a wound. Out they came purged and then killed and scrapped away. "They would have enjoyed telling you all about it and all that. How they thought it worked.. But... yeah.. sorry." She fell back into silence.

T'val looked down, and just for a second, nearly forgot who she was. She could feel Lyra being reflected in the people Yani described. She shook her head and recollected herself. "I... am familiar with how those who think differently are treated by the scientific community." T'val took a breath. "Lyra Bogdonovich has a reputation for unusual research that is rarely respected until more respected scientists double check her work. I find it... distasteful. I am biased, but I find it distasteful all the same."

"Yeah it is that." Yani said finishing up her section. she shook the bottle to try to keep it from cooling down to fast and to break up any part that might have started to congeal. "The worst part of it is knowing how much it could help in the medical areas in perhaps helping those being reclaimed from the Borg. But Pride has to go before the fall. It was up till recently part of the Majors plan to break into one of the recovery facilities and have me program all the replicators to produce nothing but lime jell-o. Just to get some one to see. However Cassandra pointed out that there is a good chance that with out a proper application method we might just end up killing a bunch of innocent people to prove a moot point. And Fred and Joe wouldn't have wanted that."

Yani sighed and did a walk through of the room. It looked clear from down here. Now the fun part of crawling around and checking every nook and cranny began. "So we set about just working on the appeals. Then the transfers and shore leave, just patching things up as best we could. Major says he picked this place so he wouldn't be temped t go to Earth and find himself some trouble. So here we are. You have kids or anything?" She asked as she took a hydrospanner from her kit and set it so as to remove the screws holding on the outer casing of the station she was by.

T'val looked away. "I have nothing. Except the job. And a friend. Just the one." Her tone went quiet. "And I would do anything and everything I could to prove her as clever as she is. You honor them by using their techniques to solve problems in the field, so that other officers are required to admit to the results."

"I just do what works. Its good to hear it might help them though." Yani felt herself smile as she pulled the panel off and shined a light around. she started at the edges and started to systematically go over the parts she could reach. everything was coming back clean though. Which was good. there where no little lumps forming in the green misted areas. The room smelled of artificial lime it almost over powered the burnt sugar smell. almost. "Your friend is lucky to have some one as loyal as you looking out for them. Its been my experience in life that its often the stranger things and people in life that tend to be the most brilliant. They just seem off because they work on anther level and it takes special people to be able to see past the stranger things and acknowledge the truth of their wisdom." Yani said as she replaced the cover.

"She has earned it." T'val said, quietly. "In more ways than I will ever be able to express. It is I, who am the lucky one. I assure you." She looked towards Yani. "I suspect you understand."

"Maybe a little." Yani smiled over the console at the female Vulcan. "I do try to understand though. which gives me an edge. Besides we all are gifted with our own spec ail brand of brilliance. Maybe it comes across a little nuttier to some then others. But its prudent to do our best to at least try to understand I believe. It could just be the one person that knows the answer. You never know." She got up and moved around the room checking the rest of the equipment. "I think we got this cleared up." She said after a minute.

"Here." T'val agreed. "This helped a lot. I'll pass it on to the other teams." T'val nodded. "This will help immeasurably." She added, looking a bit relieved. "She'll wake up to a safe Starbase."

"Glad I could help. I better go and check in with the duty officer. Ill need to log my hours and then get to evening general quarters." Yani explained. "I can return after inspection if you still need a hand though." She offered her tone a little more hopeful then she'd intended it to be.

"We should be good." T'val paused. "That being said, nanotech isn't a Lyra specialty. We could probably use your help analyzing the new threat we came across for the report to Fleet command."

"Id be happy to. If lieutenant Bogdonovich doesn't mind. I really don't want to step on anyone's toes. Especially in a new command." Yani said. She was happy that they seemed pleased enough with her work to want to let her help more. It took some of the weight off from trying to adjust to all the new faces. At least these ones were friendly.

T'val shook her head. "Don't worry about Lyra. She will be happy to have competent assistance." She took a moment to check and make sure other teams has the new strategy. "Peace and long life, first Lieutenant. I hope to work with you again soon."

"Same to you T'Val was great to meet you." With that she headed to the decontamination room and once finished there hurried down to get ready for general quarters and inspection.
