Morning Briefing

Mission:
The Forgotten Outpost
Location: Various
Timeline: Current
Tobias arrived in his ready room just as Alpha Shift was taking over Ops.
He reached up and tapped his commbadge. "Bishop to Orthan. Got time for a morning briefing Commander?"
"Indeed I am, Colonel. Your office or mine today?"
"My office will do. Can you head this way?"
"I'll be right there," Alvar said, getting up and heading out. A moment later he was at the door of the CO's office, and he pressed the chime.
"Come." the Colonel answered to the chime.
A moment later, his Number One was seating across the desk from him.
"So. It's been an odd couple of days, to say the least. I know you're busy, so I won't keep you long, I just wanted to touch base and get an update on how things are going."
"Things are progressing," Alvar said. "There's still some setting up going on with the civilian sections of the station, particularly on the Promenade. Dealing with the Borg didn't help any, but I think we'll do well."
"That's good news. I am glad to hear that things are progressing. How's the crew holding up with all these changes?"
"They seem to be holding up well," Alvar said. "Fortunately, for the most part they look to be well-trained Starfleet officers and are used to the idea of sudden change."
"How are you holding up? I am sure this is not how you planned to start a big new assignment."
"I am progressing well, I think. As a wise person I once knew taught me - life is what happens when you're making other plans. I have tried to take that bit of wisdom to heart, as it has proven to be very true on many occasions."
"That sounds like good advice." Tobias said with a chuckle.
Alvar nodded. "I'll return to Ops, if there's nothing else." As there wasn't, he got up and headed out.
A few moments later, Tobias typed a quick log entry into his terminal.
*****************
"Captain's log, stardate 71120.54, The station is hosting a diplomatic negotiation between two species, the Talgarians and the Korolin. The two have been at war for several decades, and at the request of both sides, the Federation is helping mediate a cease-fire that will hopefully evolve into a lasting peace Negotiations will be difficult, as there are a lot of things that have happened in the past few decades to overcome..."
****
When he finished typing, he stood and made his way out into Ops again.
Alvar moved to stand by Colonel Bishop. "So, how about those peace negotiations?" Alvar asked as the two watched an external image of a Talgarian ship and a Korlin ship docked a few berths apart at the station on the Ops viewscreen. "Hope they'll work - those two species have been fighting each other for far too long!"
"Here's hoping is right. This could either be monumental, or a colossal failure, there really is no middle ground."
"Indeed," Alvar said. "In some ways, I do empathize with each side. I hold certain convictions as well that are near and dear to my heart, and they help dictate much of who I am. It would not be easy to have someone else come along and tell me that I should probably consider changing the way I operate because someone else does not agree with me."
"I would have to agree with you. I cannot think of a situation where that would not be problematic for just about anyone."
"Nor can I," Alvar said, "though I suppose that is why I went the sciences route in Starfleet, rather than joining the Federation Diplomatic Corps. I will leave the in-depth discussions of peace to those who understand best how to present it."
