Greetings and salutations

Mission:
The Forgotten Outpost
Location: office of Lieutenant Jordan Chase
Del held the little box/bed that contained a very bored and unhappy tribble. His black and white fluff had been brushed and then made into a lose top knot on his head. He complained bitterly to Del in his choirs of chitters and squeaks and when Del hadn't recused him from Kais grooming he had given up and calmed down.
"Kai we will be late. Wont you hurry please." Del asked as he took it upon himself to move the tribble into his locking carrier and cover him in his blanket.
Kai came back over from where she had stopped to talk to a friend for a moment. She was so easy to distract these days, Del worried it might be some Zelarkian symptom of anxiety. He had no one to ask really He and Kai were the only known survivors of their people. The last rumors he had heard about his home was that the war had gotten so bad that weapons had been used that had destroyed the home world and several outer planets with it including Saus'Kai's. This had not been a very kind year for either of them. He sighed.
He indulged her her wandering mind because he understood why and how it was broken. He also knew that if Kai was discharged she had no home to go back to anymore the only family she had left was here with the team. So he needed to keep her close. It was a pity she had lost her rank for having a go at that pompous ass hat of an Admiral. Busted down to a damn private first class from Captain. It still seemed a steep price to pay considering that everyone else in that room had been wanting to do the exact same thing.
Only Kai had had the balls to do it. He owed her. He would never be able to repay her for the image of that bastard falling over backward Kai riding him to the floor her fists like blurs of light making contact so fast shed landed nearly a dozen blows to his face and chest before Del had done security a favor and stepped in to calm her down. That would teach the jerk to refer to their dead friends as merely a "little collateral damage". Well thats just how Del saw those punches to the admirals face, just a little collateral damage for messing up his job so beautifully that Dels men had had to die for it. Some of them horrifically.
That's was part of the inspiration for this visit. He wanted to meet the public face of the station. He had heard they had one now. He was determined to make sure they knew that his men where not pawns or play things. Yes they were Marines but they were living breathing people too. Relations, positive ones needed to be established.
Kai followed him to the door. "What if shes mean?" She asked
Del rolled his eyes. "You will behave yourself." He said evenly. "Anymore questions before we go in?"
Kai shook her head still looking sulky.
"Smile Kai your suppose to be the face of our people for goddess sake. Stop being so sour." Del reached out and gave her a poke in the ribs and she merely rubbed the spot her eyes far away looking at a distant wall.
"Yeah this is going to go over real well" He said more to himself now as he checked his uniform and then hit the chime at the office door.
Jordan was up to her ears with information trying to prepare for the upcoming peace summit. Learning about the histories of the involved races had her developing a migraine. When they come range with another visitor she hesitated a moment before calling out, “Enter!”
Del motioned for Kai to enter first and she stuck her tonunge out at him so he took the lead.
Del entered with his usual smile and watched Kai slip away into the hallway. He'd deal with her later. She was not herself. He reminded himself drawing on his patience. She was still recovering like the rest of them from all the loss they had incurred during the last mission. He was willing to cut her some slack... this time. He smiled at the woman behind the desk. There was apology in his eyes as he asked.
"Am I interrupting? I could set up an appointment for later if that is more desirable." He wrapped his mind further into its void. She was a telepath, it was an automatic reaction. Though he shielded most the time anyways to keep from 'hearing' everyone else around him all the time.
Jordan looked up at her visitor and smiled back. "No, it's quite alright. A break would be welcome at this point," she admitted, waving a hand at her console. "Sometimes we can't let these things consume us entirely. What can I do for you?"
Del stepped further into the room at her welcome and approached her with a jovial smile. He'd deal with Kai later. As a consoler she needed to pull herself together a bit faster then this. "I am Delhashi Darkshadow the Marine commanding officer. I simply wanted to welcome you aboard and make your acquaintance." He extended his hand to shake hers if she so desired to do so.
She stood and reached out to shake his hand before gesturing to an open seat. "Please. I believe I've met your XO earlier," she shared. "Interesting - man."
"He is that isn't he. I am still getting to know him myself but what I do know is good and above all very interesting." He took the offered seat thankful for a moment to rest his bones. "My last XO was a Kzinti named Zymbus. He was killed in action on our last deployment. I guess I kicked up enough of a fuss about how they murdered my friend and my men some one above decided I needed a little humble reminder. Sweet of them wasn't it."
Del's tone was light and airy and didn't seem to match the words he had spoken. He just simply could not bring himself to be upset the joke was on them. Del rather liked C'Rell. He wasn't Zymbus, but that was fine by Del. He wasn't looking for replacements.
"Please forgive me I am a jaded old man. That was uncalled for." He sighed and shook his head. "These last few weeks have been very difficult for me and my men. I guess that's why I felt a need to meet you. Seeing as since you will be the face of this station in diplomacy I wanted you to get to know the men who will be going out to fight the battles when things go south in those negotiations." His tone had turned a bit somber now. He looked at her again then with a tired smile. "A bit ominous for a welcome I suppose."
"It's quite alright," Jordan replied. "I'm a bit out of sorts myself," she said as she looked around. "I've been thrown into the deep end myself having been reassigned here at the last moment due to the peace summit that I hadn't known about and am trying to learn about the involved parties as much and as quickly as possible. Don't concern yourself too much about being down, we all are allowed to have our moments. No matter what anyone says."
"That's good to know. So who are we trying to play nice with?" He asked in response to her mention of the peace summit genuinely curious now as he liked to learn about such things as new people and the such. Being one of the last of his own kind he just felt compelled to experience as much as he could anymore. Life was just too short.
Jordan passed over the PADD she had for the MXO during his visit earlier. "We are helping to negotiate a peace agreement with the Talgarians and the Korolin. I understand from the CO that they had a skirmish in the region recently."
Del took the Padd and looked it over with interest. "Sounds daunting." He was wondering why the CO hadn't told him about that actually. He frowned a little but let it go. They seemed to have it all pretty much in hand. So why would they tell him. Just the fodder after all. He handed it back to her with a soft. "Thank you ma'am. You seem to really have your hands full so I should be going perhaps. Thank you for your time." He wanted to go back to his office and look into this now. Not that he had anything in mind he just didn't like to be out of the loop and here he was very much so. It made him feel venerable.
She took the PADD back, tapping her fingers on the edge of it lightly. She couldn’t get a sense of his emotions, but then she wasn’t as skilled in her natural abilities as others of her race. However it didn’t take an empath to sense that the man seemed unnerved by the situation. “Do you know anything of these people? Maybe you could be of help?”
"No ma'am I know nothing about them and that's what is bothering me I had asked for reports about any of the races living in theses parts, especially any that I should be weary of. No one mentioned any of this. I do not enjoy not knowing what my men might end up against. Tends to get one on the weeping end of a fight when it comes down to it. I would be more then happy to educate myself about them though. If that is permittable." Delhashi said simply. He wasn't upset more embarrassed and caught off guard. Both things that didn't happen often.
Chase nodded understandingly. “I’ve been thrown into the deep end myself. I only found out about this myself having been reassigned from my original assignment to come to this base then to have the CO inform me on my check in that it was likely due to this event. You are welcome to join me for my midnight cram session. I’ll just have to take a trip to find my quarters soon to clean up at some point and then come back to continue.”
Del felt himself relax. She was different from what he had come to expect out of a diplomat. Helpful, Kind, but above all understanding. He made up his mind then. "Ill bring snacks. cant cram with out brain food." He said in way of acceptance.
