[ON]

-Sickbay-

Jo grant got up feeling queasy, at least her hair was done falling out, She now bald as a cue ball. She had no eyebrowse either. The broken container on that freighter had really done a number on her. Mr. Trensu seemed more immune, but Jo must have had gotten a more lethal exposure, it was a good thing those containers had been sealed before the others got sick. It didn't help that Jo was allergic to Hyronalyn and had to have different radiation treatments.

She stumbled into her bathroom and vomited, it wasn't like there was anything in her stomach, but what came out was pretty disgusting. she had lost about 15 kilos since she started the anti radiation treatments 3 weeks ago. She was having another bad reaction to it or perhaps the radiation had done more damage to her than the doc had let on. Jo looked in the mirror, she looked sick and was getting worse. She was definitely in no danger of ever getting a date in her current condition.

She managed to clean herself up then got dressed and went to sickbay.

Jo had a difficult time getting there she was weak and winded by the time she got there.

"Doc?" Jo asked and coughed up some more blood.

Steven pressed a hypo against his arm. Fortunately he had not been as badly exposed to the radiation on the transport as some of the others. He had been concerned about a few of them including Ensign Grant. It was then that he heard once of the nurses shout his name.

He rushed along in time to see Ensign Grant being helped onto a bio bed.

“ Oh my buttered crumpets JoAnne!” Steven said activating the bio beds systems.

Two panels from either side of the bio bed encased the Ensign. Edgeware did not like the flashing red lights. Picking up a hypo he made some adjustments then pressed it against her arm. He gave a sigh of relief as her readings began to slowly return to normal.

“ That should help. We need to increase your radiation treatments I am afraid. Whoever put the stuff on the freighter needs to be whipped.” Steven said.

"I don't think the adrenaline is working too well, I'm weak and nauseous all the time and can't keep anything down. I've been relieved of all duties for the time being. All my body hair is gone, I look like a shriveled up Deltan." Jo said.

Steven pressed a panel and looked over the readings. Why was the treatment not working. He looked at the readings more closely. Then realised why.

“ Oh my buttered crumpets! I swear this sickbay was put together by crossed eyed ants! It seems the computer scanned you and because of your size. Assumed you were a child. It’s been giving you less powerful dose. We’ll need to be careful of course but I reprogram this thing myself. Hopefully now your get the correct dose and you will start to feel better soon. Your hair will return although I hear the new fashion trend on Earth is a bald head.” Steven said.

"Bald head for women? That's a fashion trend that won't last." Jo said. "Are you sure I don't have cancer or something?" Jo continued.

She leaned over and threw up in the container again, her whole body trembled with nasea. She was in pretty bad shape.

"Uhhh. Radiation poisoning sucks..." Jo whined.

“ We were very lucky. You will be poorly for a while. But there will not be any lasting damage. Thankfully we caught it in time. I’ll mix together a fruit juice drink. That should help settle you down. Drink it whenever you feel nauseous and it will stave off any vomiting. Also well put together a diet for you. That will complement your treatment. You know I would like to know just who put those things on the cargo ships in the first place.” Hendon said.

"Believe me I would too. If I ever find out, it will be time for a vendetta." Jo said miserably.

After checking Jo’s file he began putting together her juice drink.

“ Kiwi fruit , green grapes , Lime , blueberries and my favourite blackberries. Pulverised in a think juice and chilled.” Steven said to the replicator slot. A few seconds later a tall glass of dark fluid appeared. He then brought it over to Jo’s bio bed.

“ Here you go this should help.” He said handing her the glass.

Jo took the drink she could barely drink out of a straw, but she sucked on it, and the juice flowed, it was actually pretty tasty. She swallowed and was able to keep it down.

"Mmmm, this new cocktail is pretty good Doc. Thanks I appreciate it." Jo said.

Steven typed some commanded into the replicator.

“ There now all you have to do is ask for A glass of Jo’s drink and it will give you this drink. Every time you feel nauseous order one and it will help. But now we have your dose correct that should fade away in a couple of days. Now well give you a few hours. Then I want you to try solids. Nothing to heavy say some boiled rice. Perhaps a boiled egg mashed in.” Steven advised.

"I haven't even been able to keep down water doc, let alone anything remotely solid, I've lost over 30 Lbs and haven't eaten anything in a few weeks, at least anything that would stay down." Jo replied. "I will try it though." Jo added.

“ A few weeks? When did you first report this?” Steven asked

"When we got back from the last mission, and you said I had radiation poisoning. About then my hair started falling out." Jo said.

The faulty bio bed problems.

“I am so sorry Jo. We have been problems with the bio beds. It misread your bio readings and gave you a smaller dosage. There sorted out now so hopefully as I said. Things will get back to normal. Now let’s see about getting you to keep something down.” He said.

"It doesn't help that we found out I'm allergic to Hyronalyn either. I'm game for anything at this point, I'm tired of being a sickly little waif. Yeah, I'm starving!! Jo said.

Steven smiled.

“ Now that’s a good sign. Plus we have other things apart from Hyronalyn. To be honest I don’t believe it’s the best treatment. The Vulcans came up with something much better. But. First. Let’s try something tasty for you. A nice soft boiled egg and some Soldiers.” He said. Then seeing the worried looks around him. He explained.”Soldiers is an old Earth term for thin strips of toasted bread. Ideally shaped for dipping in the egg yoke.”

"Okay I'll try it." Jo said taking a bite of it. She took two or three bites then pushed the rest away...

“ Take a sip of that juice if you feel it coming back up.” Steven advised

Jo did as instructed and managed to keep it down.

"Thanks, Doctor." Jo said.

“That juice by the way goes very well with nearly all dishes. So you can have it at hand whenever you eat. Just in case.” Steven explained

I'"ll definitely give it a try. Thank you." Jo said.

Jo stood back up to leave and passed out.

“ Woo!!! I should have warned her not to get up so quick!” Steven said rushing to her side.

Jo woke up in bed the next day.
