Mission:
Jeepers Creepers!
Location: Various
Timeline: Current
Lyra was irritated. She did not like having no explanations. She was trying to track unusual energy signatures which had no place being on the starbase. She was also trying to track missing personnel on the base coming from similar locations.
"You're right." Kathleen Lorrietta. "You were right to call me for this. This is definitely... atypical."
"You do this often?" Lyra asked.
"Yes, Lyra." Kathleen nodded. "This is my job. Stand back." She noted, raising her left arm.
"What are you doing?" Lyra pondered.
"Scanning for familiar energy, biological and technological signatures." Kathleen noted.
Lyra held up her hand scanner. "I've got this."
"Do you?" Kathleen held up her spare hand. "We need to leave."
"Why?" Lyra frowned.
"I have an identical match to a known energy, biological, and technological signature." Kathleen frowned.
"To what?" Lyra tilted her head.
"To me." Kathleen said, hastily. "Get. Back."
"Why would it match you?" Lyra frowned, backing up.
"Exactly all the wrong damned reasons." Kathleen noted. "Get security. And the Commanding Officer. And everyone."
---
Lyra rushed into operations. "We are in trouble. We are in so much trouble." She noted, rushing up to a random officer in ops. "Where is Colonel Bishop man? The First Officer? Chief of Security?"
"Wow, you're fast." Kathleen noted, taking a breath. "Good hustle, Lieutenant."
"I'm right here." Tobias said, coming out of his office in response to all the shouting. "What's going on?"
"We need guns." Lyra explained. "And people to shoot them."
"We're suspecting there are intruders." The woman in intelligence colors added. "She was looking for atypical readouts and came out with unusual energy signatures. We are going tentatively with Borg." She paused to withdraw her ID. "First Lieutenant Lorrietta. Starfleet intelligence. Long story."
"Borg? Here? I have so many questions. Explain."
"I thought we were being pretty obvious?" Lyra looked confused.
Kathleen placed a hand over her mouth. "She has scan data on her scanner. Give it to a security team. A heavily armed security team."
"You heard the woman." Tobias said, looking at Kimpok.
Kimpok limped Into ops and sat down. He was just about to give a report. When another officer came running in. All attention was turned to her so he kept silent. Until the Colonel spoke to him. Getting up Kimpok limped over to Bishop.
“Colonel. Security has already come in contact with something. We went to deck 342 to search for the missing crewmen. I am afraid to report we found biological remains. Before we were able to discover if it was our missing crew member. We were attacked by something unseen. They or it loosened parts of the corridor so it would fall on us. We had to withdraw.” He reported
Alvar, who had come out of his office early enough to catch the gist of what was going on, moved over to an auxiliary station and called up the station's internal sensors. After a moment, he reported, "I am also detecting signals on board the station that match some known Borg outputs."
Tobias quickly responded, "Where, and how many?"
"Primarily on Deck 342, with lesser amounts on the decks immediately above and below," Alvar reported. "At the moment, there is some difficulty with determining exact numbers, as the signals seem to be in a bit of flux. Hopefully, we can cross-reference the information that Lieutenants Bogdonavich and Lorrietta brought in to help get a better idea of what's going on."
Something about the Borg signals troubled Kimpok. He had the impression whatever was on deck 342. Wanted them either dead or driven out of the area. From what he had learnt about the Borg. This was opposite behaviour for them.
“ In order to cause the amount damage that we witnessed. We could be dealing with a significant amount of creatures. But something is troubling me.” He said. “ Their not behaving like Borg.”
"First Lieutenant." Kathleen corrected. "And I would agree. They allowed Lyra to escape unharmed." She paused. "Though I was attempting to modulate my systems to interfere with their scans, they didn't pursue. Didn't so much as fire a shot." She tapped her own head. "That's not the way things are done in there."
"Yes, that would be rather inconsistent with previous reports of the Borg that I've read," Alvar said. "They will attack if they consider you a threat, and attempting to directly interfere with their scans could certainly be considered a threatening move."
Tobias considered this all and ordered, "All right, we know we need to check this out." then he added, "Everyone swing by the armory, grab a weapon and move out."
